Letters Patent No. 75.069. dated March 3, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN eANe-PLoUeHs.
elo-
ire ALL WHOM 1r MAr-"eoieERN:
Be it known that'I, GEncn 'S'.rrNEeG En,-of Highland, inthe county of Madison, and State of Illinois, haveinventcd new and useful-Improvementsein Gang-Ploughs; and I do 'hereby'declare that the following 4is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, V'which will eneble those s killed in theart to vmake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in .which` f Figure 1 isa-'sectional side view of myfimproved plough, through the line :u a', fig. 2.
` Figure 2 is a plan view of the plough belewtheseetion y y, iig. 1.
Similnrletters of reference 'indicate corresponding parts'- v This invention consists in the'arrangement'of certeinparts of. a gang-plough, as will hereinafter be more fully'set .forth. i i l "In'ft'he' drawings, the 'axle A is mounted in the nsual manner. B B are theswinging beams, to which ore atteehed the pleughs P by the clips a., as shown. 'The plonghs are thus permitted to be' wholly or partially out of the soil, the lifting-lever 6, which vibrates on the end ofthe fulcrum-brace Those levers are provided witha. plete,- e, which catches into the notches of the rack f, 'affixed to the nprightsy, and thereby hold the plough :it any point of elevation. A rod or link, h'connects the lifting-'levers with the swinging beams B B. hese letterare attached t'othe axle A.by means of eye-plates i, bolted to the under side of' the beams, the cyr ei the said'plates being connected with the eye-bolts k in the axle, as shown. .Lateralbraccm l, similarly connected with thc axlc,'an`t l bolted to the sides of Vthe beams, relieve the eye-plntes z and eye-bolts k from lateral strain. The link h is made with two or more holes, for the purpose of adjusting the lever to raise the ploughs higher or lower, as occasion may require. A cross-rod, m, connects the two fnlcrum-braces, thereby conferring stincss to them. vBrace-rods il also assiette render them more secure in their position. vThe position of the driver -on the seat-D enables'him'to operate the lifting-levers atwill, by pressing upon them with his feet.
This plough' is cheap, durable, ,and has been proven by practical trials to be superior to those -gang-plougbs heretofore made, in several important particulars. v
I am aware that gang-ploughs capable of being lifted by the driver have been made, and do not claim the lifting of such ploughs broadly.
What I claim as new, andidesire to secure by Letters Patent, isf
AThe swinging beams B B', when lifted by the lever b and link 71., substantial] ns shown and l.lescribed, in combination 'with the lateral braces I, eye-plates t', and bolts lc, or their equivalent, all as and for the purpose set forth.
' GEORGE STEINEGGER.
