Description

No. 759,943. PATENTED MAY 17, 1904.
A. L. TURNIPSEED.
OIL CELLAR.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 24, 1903.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented May 17, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
OIL-CELLAR- SPEOIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,943, dated May 17, 1904.
Application filed August 24, 1903.
To all whom it may concern: V
Be it known that LARTHUR L. TURNIPSEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, Shelby county, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cellars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in oil-cellars for journalboxes, and has especial reference to anew device for use with the journal-boxes of a locomotive or car or with other boxes subjected to like pressurec'. 0., a pressure from one side only.
The object of my invention is to make an oil-cellar which may be easily removed for cleaning or refilling or to allow the journalboxes to be raised from the journal when same is desired. I accomplish this object by mak ing a cellar which can be removed by drawing it out to one side, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth in the drawings, specification, and claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elex'ation showing a portion of a locomotive-frame with a journal-box and oil-cellar in place. Fig. 2
is a section on the center line of Fig. 1, but
which is set up by the set-screw 5 to tighten the box in place.
The oil-cellar 6 is held by Serial No. 170,593. (No model.)
oppositely-disposed pins 7, which project from its opposite sides near the bottom and one end. These p'ins slide in opposite grooves 8 in the sides 9 of the journal-box, which grooves extend horizontally nearly across the face of the sides 9 and then drop down at an angle toward the front edge of same. 10 is a slot in the oil-cellar, and 11 a similar slot in one side 9 of the journal-box. 12 is a key which is inserted in this slot to hold the parts together when they are in place.
To remove .the box, the key 12 is removed and the cellar pulled forward until the pins 7 come to the front of the slot, when they slip down and allow the collar to be entirely removed. The cellar may be drawn to the position shown and be dropped down and the pocket be examined without entirely removing it.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The combination with a half-bearing having its sides extended downward and provided with opposite grooves extending horizontally almost across, and then dropped downward at an angle to the front of same, an oil-cellar having opposite pins projecting from its sides and adapted to engage the grooved sides of the bearing and a key locking the bearing and cellar together when the latter is in place.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
