PETER ORLEANS, OP DUSSELDORF, GERMANY.
GARNIENT-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 755,037, dated March 22, 1904.
I Application filed January l2, 1903. Serial No. 138,592. (N0 model.)
To all whom] t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER ORLEANS, a citi- Zen of the German Empire, and a residentof Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented an Improved Garment-Fastening, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to a garment-fastening that may be quickly attached, obtains a superior hold, and imparts a proper stiffness tothe edge of the garment.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly broken away, of a garment provided with my improved fastening. Fig. 2 is a front view, partly in section, of the fastening proper; and Fig. 3, a crosssection on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Each of the hooks a of the fastening is provided with a single attaching-eye a', which is of oblong shape and extends at right angles to the body of the hook. The slot inclosed by the eye a' is of just sufIicient width for snugly admitting the needle and thread, by means of which the hook is sewed tothe garment. In like manner the eye of the fastening is provided with an oblong transverselyextending attaching-eye b.
In securing the fastening toa garment c the edge of the latter is provided with a fold, into which the hook and eye are placed. The outer end of the hook or eye projects outward the elongated. eye of the hook-and-eye meInber is so narrow as to snugly fit the needle, the seam formed within the eye will be flanked by the velongated sides of the eye, so that looseness of the fastening during wear is prevented. If desired, all the three seams may be formed simultaneously.
What I claim is- A garment-fastening Composed of a hookand-eye member having an oblong attachingeye of a width to snugly fit the thread, a garment having a perforatedfold inclosing said eye, a machine-seam within the eye and flanked by the elongated sides thereof, and a pair of machine-seams at the front and back of the eye, substantially as specified. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed Iny name in the presence of two wit- DGSSGS.
lPETER oRLEANs.
