HAIR-CRIMPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 742,795, dated October 27, 19 3- Application filed December 19, 1902.
$erialNo.135,913. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE R. LINTHICUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at T0- ledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Crimpers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful device for crimping hair; and its object is to [0 provide a simple and ornamental device of this character adapted to be adjusted to the head and by means of which the hair may be held in position on the head for a desired period, after which the crimping device may :5 be easily removed.
The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the crimping device in use, and
Fig. 2 is a detail view of said device detached.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a loop to which are secured the ends of tapes 2, passing through a slide 3,
loosely mounted thereon. The opposite ends of these tapes are secured to elastics 4:, adapted to pass through an eye 5, formed in one end of a hook 6, and these elastics are bent upon themselves and the ends thereof secured to slides 7, arranged upon the tapes 2. An
eye 8 is formed within and parallel to loop 1 and is for the purpose hereinafter described.
When it is desired to use this device, thehair is moistened and fastened up in pompadour style, and the crimper is then put thereon and hook 6 placed into engagement with eye 8. If the crimper is too long, the 0 same can be adjusted to the head by moving the slides 7 along the tapes 2. The hook 6 should be arranged at the back of the head, and slide 3 should be arranged upon the hair at a point above the center of the forehead.
Those portions of the tapes between the front slide 3 and hook 6 are then separated desired distances, and the hair ispulled outward therebetween. The crimper may then be left in this position for a desired period and can be readily removed by simply detaching hook 6 from eye 8. It will be understood that the pressure of the tapes 2 upon the hair will form the desired crimps therein. If desired, more than two tapes may be employed.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A crimping device elastic extensions thereto, ing the ends of said tapes, and ed upon the tapes at points ends.
2. In a crimping device the combination with parallel tapes having elastic extensions, of a loop upon one end of the tapes, a hook upon the opposite ends adapted to engage said loop, and a slide slidably mounted upon said tapes at points between their ends.
3. A crimping device comprising parallel tapes, adjustable elastic extensions thereto, a hook having an eye engaged by said extension's, an eye at the opposite ends of the tapes and adapted to be engaged by the hook, and an adjustable slide upon the tapes at points between their ends.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARRIE Pt. LINTHICUM.
