BARRETTE.
APPLICATION FILED NOV-10,1921.

LQQAEO res MILTON D. MESEROLE, 0F MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO HAYES & MESEROLE MFG. 00., OF: NEW 'HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A FIRM COMPOSED OF SAID MESEROLE AND GEORGE-M; HAYES.
BARRETTE.
Application filed November 10, 1921.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MILTON D. Mnsnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barrettes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent in- Fig. 1 a face view of a barrette constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a side view of the same.
Fig. 3 a rear view of the same.
Fig. 4 a rear view of a barrette, showing a modified form of bar.
Fig. 5 a rear view, showing a modified form of pin.
This invention relates to improvements in barrettes, the object of the invention being to provide a barrette by which the hair is firmly held between the bar and the pin, and by which the pin is firmly held in its locked position, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a bar 10, which may be of any approved design and formed from any suitable material, preferably of metal. This bar is formed with a central opening 11, preferably divided by a centrally-arranged, integral, longitudinal strap 12 forming two openings. A pin 13 is preferably formed from a single piece of wire doubled at the center to form a tip 14, the legs 15 and 16 being separated and the. ends 17 and 18 being turned inward into an eye 20 formed by rolling one end of the bar 10. To prevent the withdrawal of the ends 17 and 18 from the eye 20, I form that end of the bar with cars 21 and 22, which are turned downward against the ends of the pin. The outer end of the pin is bent downward, and the tip is longitudinally-bowed to form a seat 23 for a loop 24, which is mounted in an eye 25 on the bar 10, so that the loop is free to swing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1922.
Serial No. 514,232.
If desired, and as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the central strap 12 may be omltted, and instead of using a double pin, as above described, I may use a single pin 26, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, this form of pin serving with a bar having a single opening. The pins are curved corresponding to the curvature of the bars, and the curvature of the pin is such that it will crowd portions of the hair through the opening, or openings, in the bar, so as to firmly remain in place when once adjusted, and when adjusted, the pin is locked by the engagement of the loop 24 entering the seat 23 in the tip of the pin, thus preventing the accidental disengagement of the pin with the bar.
I claim:
1. A barrette, including a bar formed with an opening, a pin hinged to one end of the bar and offset at its opposite end, and a loop hinged to the bar and adapted to engage with the point of the pin.
2. A barrette, including a bar formed with an opening, a pin hinged to one end of the bar and offset at its opposite end, and provided at its tip with a seat, and a loop hin ed to the said bar and adapted to engage t e tip of the said pin.
8. A barrette, including a bar formed with an opening, a. pin hinged to one end of the bar and provided at its tip with a seat and a loop hinged to the other end of said bar and adapted to engage the seat at the tip of the said pin.
4. A barrette, comprising a bar formed with an opening, and a pin formed from a single piece of wire, doubled at its center to form a tip having a seat, the ends of the said wire hinged to one end of the bar, the legs of the pin separated, and a loop hinged to the outer end of said bar and adapted to engage the seat at the tip of the opening.
5. A barrette, comprising a bar formed with an opening divided by a longitudinal strap, a pin hinged to one end of the bar. and comprising two legs arranged to stand above and below the plane of the said strap, the point of the pin offset, and means for connecting the point with the bar.
6. A barrette, comprising a frame formed ears extending downward into the paths of With a longitudinal opening, and eyes at adapted to engage with the tip of the pin. opposite ends, a pin formed from a piece In testimony whereof, I have signed this 10 of Wire doubled at the center to form a tip, specification in the presence of two subscriband its ends turned into the eye at one end ing Witnesses. of the bar, the said bar also formed With MILTON D.
