UNITED. STAT-Es Patented July '7, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
BOTTLE HOLDER AND PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 732,936, dated July 7, 1903.
Application filed October 28,1902.
Wilkesbarre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Holders and Protectors, of which the follow-. ing is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention isto provide an improved device which will serve to hold a bottle having a conical or rounded bottom and will also serve as a protection to bottles of this class when packed together in a crate or otherwise; and with this and other objects in view theinvention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
Theinvention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, inwhich the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank of which my improved bottle holder or protector is made; Fig. 2, aside view of a bottle having my improvement applied thereto, so as to protect the same; Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig.
-2,- showing my improvementapplied as a bot-,
tle-holder; and Fig. 4,'a view similar to Fig.
3, but showing a modification.
In the practice of my invention I cut from a sheet of thin flexible metal the blank shown in Fig. 1, which comprises a base a, preferably composed of two parallel and segmental parts a the inner part being provided with radial fingers a in the ends of which are preferably formed holes a One end of the segmental base portion a, is provided with transverse slots or openings a and the other end with corresponding tongues a, and in practice the said segmental base portion a, is bent so as to form a circular member a which is conical in form, the tongue a": being forced through the slots or openings d and secured therein in any desired manner. The fingers n are then bent outwardly and in the form Serial No. 129,092. (No model-7 the bottom of the bottle is inserted when the device is intended for use as a bottle-holder, and in the construction shown in Fig. 4 I have simply inverted the bottle-holder, and 'in this position the bottle is inserted into the receptacle formed by the fingers a and into the conical top or smaller portion of the base.
In Fig. 2 the neck of the bottle is shown inserted into and through the base portion of the holder, and the fingers a are tied tightly around the neck of the bottle by means of a string or cord b or any other suitable flexible device, and when applied in this manner my improvement will serve to protect and prevent bottles from breaking when packed in a box or other casing.
The base portion a of the device may be made solid or may be provided with openings a as shown in the drawings, and although I have described my improved bottle holder and protector as made of sheet metal it will be apparent that other material may be employed, and my invention is not limited to the use of any particular material or metal in the construction thereof, and the form of the base and the other parts of the device may be varied within certain limits, and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention orsacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bottle-holder out from a sheet of flexible material and comprising a segmental base having radially and inwardly directed fingers and the ends of which are adapted to be connected, substantially as shown and described. 2. A bottle-holder composed of a conical body or base portion into which the end of a bottle may be inserted, and the smaller'end of which is provided with outwardly-curved leg or finger members, substantially as shown and described.
3. A bottle holder and protector comprising a segmental base portion the ends of which of construction shown in Fig. 3 then serve are adapted to be connected so as to form a as legs to support the member a into which 7 ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this Zetth day of October, 1902.
