To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, WALTER M. LnwELLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie Holders and Presses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a neck-tie holder and press. l

The primar f object of the invention resides in providing a neck-tie holder which will maintain the neck-ties in a flat condition, and which is of such a character that it may be conveniently carried.

A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that the creases which are produced in a tie during the wearing of the same, will be pressed therefrom.

With these and other objects in view, such as will appear as my description progresses, my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts, as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

Figure l is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the cover in place thereon;

Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the base and clamping element, and showing a plurality of ties in construction lines;

The device consists of the base l, which is substantially flat and substantially rectangular in form, having at its corners projections 2. This base maybe of any suitable stiff material, such as wood, card-board, or the like.

A clamping element is provided, which element is made of Spring metal, and consists of a front enlarged portion 3 and a resilient hook portion 4, which latter is adapted to engage over the upper edge of the base l, so as to maintainthe enlarged portion 3 in firm contact with the front surface of the base. The enlarged portion 3 of the clamping element is provided with a plurality of tongues 5, which extend outwardly from the plane of the enlarged portion and are arranged in staggered relation. These tongues 5 may be formedon or attached to the enlarged portion 3 in any desired manner. I have disclosed them as being struck from the material of the enlarged portion and bent outwardly from the surface thereof, but it is, of course, to be understood that they may be formed in various and sundry ways. The device is provided with a cover which is shown in Figs. l and 2. This cover as illustrated is of substantially the same shape as the base l and is open at one end so that the base may be slipped into the same. The cover illustrated comprises an inner liner 6, which is of such material as to keep the cover in a definite form. The material may be rubber or the like. This liner will coperate with the base 1 to maintain the ties in a flattened condition. The liner is located within a suitable ornamental cover 7, which may be of ornamental fabric or any other desirable material.

In using the device, if a tie has become particularly creased during the wearing, it is placed over the upper edge of the base l with the creased portion located on the front surface of the base and slightly below the upper edge thereof. The clamping element is slipped over the upper edge and over the tie so that the enlarged portion 3 engages the creased portion of the tie and forces it into tight contact with the base 1, thus removing the creases. The resilient hook portion 4 engaging over the upper edge of the base securely maintains the tie in position. A great number of other ties may be hooked over the tongues 5 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 4, so that they will lie in flat contact with the front surface of the basel. When the base is inserted in the cover, the ties will be pressed against the surface of the base by the cover. This pressure on the ties will remove any creases therefrom.

l/Vhat I claim is:

l. An article of the class described, comprising a fiat base, and a spring metal prising a flat base, a flat element arranged to engage one surface of the base and having a plurality of tie-supporting tongues 10 thereon, and resilient means for maintaining the flat element in place on the base and tending to maintain it in forcible contact With the surface of the base.
