srEcIFIcATIoN forming peut ef Lettere Patent No. 738,720, dettes september s, 1903.
Original application iilecl August 26. 1902.`Serial No. 121,064. Dividodraud this application filed November 6, 1902. Serial v No. 130.314. (No model.)`
T a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
` Be it known that I, JosEPH P. GERTH, aY citizen of the United States, residing'at Toluca, in the county of Marshall and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Shade-Hangers; and I do declare'the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which production, and durable in use.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts,as will be more fully described,-
and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the` drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of one form of hanger embodying `my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-sectional View through the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a modified form of hanger. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional View through the same.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the numerall denotes the central section of the hanger, formed with the beveled edges 2, which are adapted to be engaged by the bent edges or iianges 3 of the two end sections 4 to permit the same to slide upon the central section.` The central section is provided adja- ,cent to each end'witli longitudinal slots 5, andA `the end-sections are formed with openings or apertures 6, which register with said slots 5. The hanger or holder is adapted to be used j between the side frames at the top of the windows, and -in applying the same the end sections 4 are adjusted upon the central section 1, and screws or other fastening means are then inserted through the slots' and apertures 6 to secure the hanger to the top of the window-frame and to hold the end sections in their adj usted position. Thecentral section may also be provided with an .opening 7, through which a screw may be passed to secure the same to the frame. The end sections 4 are formed with bracket carrying extensions 8, projecting downwardly and at right angles to the central section. The side edges 9 and bottoms of these extensions are bent inwardly to receive the shade brackets 10, which are retained in position by the integral tongues 11, formed upon the side edges and bent over upon said brackets. The brackets 10 are adjusted vertically in said extensions to permit the shade to hang properly by means.
of the screws 11, which pass throughthreaded apertures in the bottoms of said extensions and lbear upon the lower ends of the brackets.
In the modification illustrated in l Figs. 3 and 4 the central section is formed with longitudinal grooves by bending the edgQS 12 back upon themselves. The end sections are slidably mounted in said grooves, as shown in Fig. 4. Apertures 13 are formed in the end sections and the central section to secure the same to the window-frame and to hold the end sections-in adjusted position. The end sections are formed with depending extensions having their sidev edges and bottom edges bent inwardly to receive the shade-brackets and having tongues formed upon the sides and bottoms of the extensions adapted to be bent over upon the brackets to holdV them` upon the extensions. The brackets are also vertically adjusted upon the extensions by means of the screws 11.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without requirin g a more extended explanation.
Various changesin the form, proportion, and the minor details of constructionmay be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
HavingV thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is@
IOO
1. A shade-hanger comprising a central v section and end sections slidably connected substantially as described.
2. A shadehanger comprising a centralsection, end sections slidably mounted upon the central section, bracket-carrying extensions upon the end sections, having their side and bottom edges bent to receive the shadebrackets, tongues adapted to retain the brackets upon the extensions, and screws for adjusting the brackets upon the extensions, substantially as setiforth.
3. A vshade -hanger comprising a central section formed with beveled edges and longitudinal slots, end sections having bent edges oranges to engage the beveled edges of the centralsection and havingapertures Aregister'- ing with the longitudinal slots in the central section, said slots and apertures being adapted to receive screws to secure the hanger to the window-frame and to hold the end sections upon the central section, bracket-carrying extensions upon the end sections, hav.- ing their side and bottom edges bent to receive the shade-brackets, integral tongues formed upon the extensions and adapted to be bent over upon the brackets to retain same upon the extensions, and screws in said extensions to adjust the brackets upon the extensions, substantially as shown and described.
'In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
