CHARLES F. NYE, OF WARSAW, INDIANA.
DISPLAY-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION foriningpart of Letters Patent No. 736,141, dated August 11, 1903.
Application filed October 9, 1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. NYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warsaw, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to improvements in show-stands and fixtures in mercantile establishments for the purpose of displaying different articles of merchandise and facilitating the examination thereof, as will be hereinafter set forth.'
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a device embodying the improved features. Fig. 2 isa part'elevation and part section, and Fig. 3 is a plan section.
Arevoluble stand or table-top A is provided on the under side with a hub 4, to the under side of which is rigidly secured a plate 5, having a bearing-pin 6 formed integral therewith. This pin is loosely inserted in a bearing-socket 7, provided with a base-flange 8 and rigidly mounted on a cap 9, to which the supporting-legslOaresecured. This arrangement provides means whereby the table-top may be easily and conveniently turned in either direction. A flanged socket 11 is secured to the upper side and center of the table-top and is screw-threaded interiorly for the engagement of a correspondinglythreaded nut 12, loosely mounted on the lower end of a standard 13. This standardis provided on the lower end with a flange 14, resting on the bottom of the socket 11. When these parts are assembled, the nut 12 should be screwed down just tight enough to retain the 1 standard in a true vertical position and at the same time permit of it being easily turned on its axis. The socket-bearings'also afford a convenient means for keeping the parts lubricated in imparting a free noiseless movej ment.
A number of laterally extending displayrods 15 are movably mounted on the standard 13 and may be retained in any position within the range of their adjustment by means of the set-screws 16. These rods are adapted SerialN0.l26,570. (Nomodeh) to be raised or lowered on the standard or turned round thereon in bringing them into different positions in accordance with the kind of goods and the arrangement offthe display. The knobs 17, mounted on the outer ends of the rods, prevent the articles from slipping off. A bracket-arm 18 is also movably mounted on the standard and is intended to hold articles of a different kind from that of r the rods. This arm is provided with notches 19, forming a serrated edge, the object of which is to retain the articles displayed in a fixed position and prevent the same from being accidentally shifted.
A head 20, provided with a groove 21, is mounted on theupper end of the standard and provides means for holding a price or advertising card 22, as shown in Fig. 1.
The surface of the revolving tabletop is inclined, being highest at the center and gradually sloping to the edge. This feature is to facilitate the examination of goods spread out thereon.
The table will be the proper height for a person sitting thereat to see the goods thereon, and the revolving feature permits of all the goods displayed being brought around to one point for examination without the necessity of the person moving. This is especially convenient for women shoppers, who can remain in a comfortable seated position and examine a great variety of goods.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
1. In adisplay device, the combination with a revoluble table-top having an inclined surface, of a standard rising from the center of the table, and means for retaining said standard in place so that it will rotate with the tableor be turned independently therefrom, substantially as set forth.
2. Ina device of the kind described, the combination with a revoluble table-top provided on the under side with a hub, of a plate having a bearing-pin formed integral therewith, a hearing-socket, in which the bearingpin is loosely seated, a cap to which said socket is secured, and the legsattached to the under side of said cap, substantially as set forth. 1
3. In a display device, the combination with thereon, the display-rods movably mounted on the standard, and a head, fixed on the upper end of said standard, and provided with I5 a groove for holding an object, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. NYE.
