Description

PATENTED AUG. 11,- 1903.
G. RBTZKO.
SHADE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 25, 1903.
N0 MODEL.
No. 736,018. Patented August 11, 1903.
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV RETZKO, OF WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT.
SHADE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,018, dated August 11, 1903.
Application filed April 25, 1903.
TouZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV RETZKO, of Wallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shade and Curtain Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the figures of reference marked thereon, to be afull, clear, and
exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view of a pair of ourtain-pole and shade-roller fixtures constructed in accordance with my invention, indicating the shade roller in position; Fig. 2, a broken perspective view of one corner of the plate, showing my preferred form of slide; Fig. 3, a similar view showing a square slide; Fig. 4, a similar view showing a round slide.
This invention relates to an improvement in curtain-fixtures, and particularly to the combination of a curtain-pole'bracket and a shade-roller fixture in which the shade-roller fixture is made adjustable.
The object of the invention is to so combine the curtain-pole bracket and the shaderoller fixture with a plate that both bracket and fixture may be permanently attached together and adapted to be permanently secured to a window-casing; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter de scribed, and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention the fixtures are formed in pairs each member of which comprises a plate 2, which is provided with screw-holes 3 4, by which the plate may be attached to the top of a window-casing. On each plate is a curtain-pole bracket 5 of substantially usual construction, except that it may be riveted or otherwise permanentlysecured to the plate. Below the bracket and preferably formed integral with the lower brace 12 thereof is a bridge or strap 6, riveted or otherwise secured to the plate, so as to form an opening between the inner face of the bridge and the outer face of the plate and adapted'to receive a slide 7, which is clamped between the bridge and plate by a set-screw 8. This slide has an outwardly-extending arm 9, provided with an opening or slot 10 to receive one end of the shade-roller fixture.
Preferably and as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 fierial No. 154,203. (No model.)
of the drawings the slide 7 is a fiat bar, but, if desired and as showninFig. 3 of the drawings, the slide may be square, the bridge formed by the strap being ofcorresponding shape, or instead of forming the slide square and from metal it may be round, as shown in Fig. 4, and formed from wood, in which case it is desirable that a plate 11 be secured to one side of the slide as a bearing for the setscrew 8. If a round slide is employed, provision for supporting the shade-roller will be made in the end of the slide instead of an offset arm therefrom.
By permanently uniting the shade-roller fixtures and curtain-pole brackets to plates both fixtures and brackets may be conveniently secured in position by attaching the plates to the window-casing. As there is sub stantially but little variation in the length of curtain-poles, it is unnecessary that the curtain-pole bracket should be adjustable; but shade-rollers vary in length, and it is necessary that the fixtures therefor should be adjustable, and this adjustment is made by moving the slides in and out through the bridges or straps on the plates.
I am aware that shade-roller fixtures have been made adjustable. I therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such as my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a fiat plate adapted to be secured to a window-casing, of a curtain-pole bracket having an upper arm and brace which are permanently secured to said plate, a strap or bridge also permanently secured to said plate below said bracket, a slide 7 GUSTAV RETZKO.
