To all whom it may cOncern:

Be it known that I, WALTER Cocnonor'r, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Shade- Roller Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to shade roller supports, and has reference more particularly to a device of this class which comprises an elongated member, a bracket adjustable longitudinally of the member and having means for supporting a shade roller, and a clamp associated with the bracket and adapted to secure the same in different positions along the member.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and durable shade roller support which can be inexpensively manufactured, by means of which shade rollers, curtain poles or other like devices can be conveniently mounted in position at windows or other places where they are to be used, which is adjustable to allow for different widths of window frames and for different lengths of shade rollers or other devices of this kind, which can be easily manipulated, and in which the elements of each pair of devices used together are interchangeable.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a horizontal section showing an embodiment of my invention set to mount a shade roller in position on a window frame; Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the device showing certain of the parts in section; Fig. t is a fragmentary view similar to Fig. 3, illustrating one of the members in a different position; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the elongated member upon which the bracket'is adjustably mounted; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the bracket.

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while it is designed particularly for use with roller shades at windows and the like, it can also be advantageously employed for other purposes, for example, in mounting curtain polesin position. The parts of the device are fashioned from any suitable material, and they are preferably stamped from metal.

Certain of the details of construction, shown for example herewith, form no part of the invention and can be varied in accordance with individual preference and special conditions, without deviating from the essence of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, each of the supports comprises an elongated member 10 consisting of a plate or the like having at the lower edge an offset flange 11, and at the upper edge an offset flange 12 which is formed into a plurality of teeth or serrations 13. Near each end, the elongated member, intermediate the offset flanges, which serve a purpose to appear hereinafter, has a pair of openings 14 adapted to receive screws or nails 15, to attach the member to the woodwork of a window casing 17 or the like. By providing each member with two sets of openings near its ends the members can be interchangeably used at one or the other side of the window frame.

Slidably mounted upon the elongated member is a bracket 17 fashioned from plate or sheet metal bent into form and comprising a member 18 having at the upper end a hook-shaped, rearwardly disposed flange 19, and having at one side a laterally disposed bracket arm 20. The member 18 with its hook-shaped flan e constitutes a hanger, depending froln tie elongated member. It has a stud 21 extending under the flange 19 and adapted to engage between any two adjacent teeth 13 to make an interlocking connection with the flange. The lower end of the member 18 is preferably tapered, and has pivotally secured thereto by means of a rivet 22 or in any other suitable manner, a clamp 23 having a handle 24 and a camshaped end 25 adapted to engage at the lower flange 11 of the elongated member. The arm 20 has an opening 26, or is provided with other means for supporting a shade roller 27, which at the extremities has the usual pivot ends or trunnions 28.

By offsetting the flanges 11 and 12 of the elongated member as shown, the bracket can be adjusted along the entire length of the member either at the projected end thereof or at the part of the same which is secured to the woodwork, without interference on the part of the latter. .The flange 19 of the hanger engages at the upper ends of the teeth 13, the stud 21 being located between two of the teeth, as is shown in Fig. 3. The end 25 of the clamp, when the latter is tightened, engages at the flange 11 of the elongated member. The bracket can be easily fastened or released by swinging the clamp into-and out of operative engage ment with the elongated member as will be readily understood. To shift the bracket longitudinally of the member 10, it is merely necessary to raise it until the stud passes from engagement between two teeth, and

slide it to the desired point.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A device of the class described, comprising a support consisting of an elongated member having flanges, a bracket depending from the upper of said flanges and wholly free otherwise, of said support, said bracket being adjustable longitudinally of said support, and. a clamp associated with said bracket and adapted to secure the same in different positions along said support, by engaging at thelower flange thereof, said bracket having means for supporting a shade roller or the like.
