To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, C ARLES E. Wron- LIFFE, a citizen of the United States, and
resident of the borough of Manhattamcity, county, and State of; New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVindow-Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brackets for supporting shade rollers, and has for its object to provide a bracket of simple and inexpensive construction which may be readily stamped, or otherwise formed, from sheet metal and which may be readily and securely fastened to a window frame.

The two brackets are stamped, or otherwise formed, of bendable sheet metal. Each bracket comprises a plate 1, preferably elongated vertically as shown, and having a long and narrow bendable extension or arm 2 formed integrally therewith. The arm 2 extends horizontally from one of the vertical side edges of the plate 1, preferably at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of the plate, as shown, and is preferably formed with a widened or flared outer end portion 3 having a vertical end edge parallel with the side edges of plate 1. The plate 1 is provided with an aperture 4. preferably in horizontal alinement with the bendable arm or tongue 2, through which the shank of a tack, screw, or nail may be driven, as hereinafter described.
The plate 1 of the left hand bracket is formed with a laterally offset substantially offset portions project from opposite faces of the plates to adapt the brackets for use at opposite sides of a window frame. The off set portion 5 of the left hand bracket is formed with a vertical slot Z which is open at its upper end, and the offset portion 6 of .the right hand bracket is formed with a circular aperture 8. r I
The brackets are designed to be shipped and sold in fiat form in pairs, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To apply the brackets to a window frame, the flared ends 3 of the tongues or anchoring members 2. are forced ner faces of the strips Tacks 11, or
other suitable fastening devices, arev then driven or screwed into the strips 10' with their shanks passing through theapertures 4 in the plates 1.
The broad frictional bearing of the flared ends 3 of tongues 2 on the strips 10 and window frame 9 and the broad frictional bearing of plates 1 on strips 10 serve to prevent rocking of the brackets about the tacks 11 as pivots and also assist in resisting vertical or horizontal sliding of the brackets on the strips 10. These broad bearing surfaces also prevent the plates 1 from swinging or tilting away from the inner faces of strips 10. By anchoring the tongues 2 between the Window frame and sash-retaining strips the brackets may be securely held to the window frame by a single tack or other small fastening device. By providing rela tively long bendable tongues or anchoring arms the brackets may be attached to window frames having sash-retaining strips of different thickness.
While I have shown the offset portions 5 and 6 of U-shape, and as being formed at the upper ends of plates 1, it will be obvious that both the shape and location of the off set portion may be changed. A shade roller of the usual construction, having the usual cylindrical journal at one endand the usual flattened journal at the other end, and a shade 12 rolled thereon, may beremovably mounted in the brackets by inserting the cylindrical journal in the aperture 8 and It will be obvious also that the opening 4 may be omitted and that the bracket may be attached to a window without employing a tack or screw, since ordinarily the end 3 of the anchoring tongue 2 will be vso securely clamped 'between'the abutting faces of the frame 9 and strip 10 that the bracket i of a sash retaining strip. 30
