Be it known that I, HERMAN A. KREZDORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seguin, in the county of Guadalupe and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat and Coat Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention provides simple, effective, and novel means for holding a hat and coat in suspension, the hat being confined between the wall, partition, or like surface and a part of the hanger by means of the weight of the coat when suspended from the hanger, the hat dropping into position to be conveniently removed after the hanger has been relieved of.

A suspending device constructed in accordance with the invention precludes displacement of the hat bya current of air or by any object knocking against the same which would cause the displacement of a hat or cap hung upon the ordinary peg, pin, or rack.

In accordance with this invention the device comprises the hat-holder and coat-hook pivotally connected with a bracket in such a manner as to admit of the hat-holder occupying an approximately horizontal position when the coat-hook is free, thereby permitting the hat to be readily placed in position or removed from the holder, the parts being combined'to admit of throwing the hat upward and confining the same between the wall or partition and the holder when the coat is suspended from the coat-hook.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached.

While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modito in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The appliance comprises a bracket or support 1 of right-angular formation in side view, provided with lateral journals 2 for pivotally supporting the frame carrying the hatholder and coat-hook. This bracket is adapted to be attached to a wall, partition, or like support 3 in any accustomed way.

The frame provided with the hat-holder 4 and coat-hook 5 comprises spaced side members 6, which are pivoted between their ends to journals 2 of the bracket 1. This frame is adapted to turn freely upon the journals 2.

The hat-holder 4 may be of any design, and preferably consists of a rim or band, so as to encircle the crown of the hat and support the same by engagement with the rim, as most clearly indicated in Fig. 1. This hat-holder is attached to the pivoted frame in any convenient way. The coat-hook 5 is pivoted to the opposite end of the pivoted frame, and the hook proper is out of line with the journals, so as to admit of the hook proper occupying a vertical position at all stages of ad justment of the pivoted frame, this being essential in order to retain the coat or like article in place when applied thereto. The coat-hook may be of any desired construction, and, as shown, comprises an approximately V-shaped frame having a tongue extended from the angle formed between the side members of the V-frame. The manner of attachment of the coat-hook to the pivoted frame is unimportant so long as the coathook is susceptible of pivotal movement.

The device is so constructed and the parts proportioned and disposed as to admit of the pivoted frame normally occupying an approximately horizontal position, as indicated in Fig. 1, thereby admitting of the hat being conveniently placed in the holder. When the coat is applied to the hook 5, the hat is counterbalanced and the pivoted frame turned into a vertical position, thereby confining the hat between the holder and the wall 3 and preventing displacement of the hat by a current of air or an object hitting thereagainst. When the coat is removed from the hook, the hat will immediately drop into the position shown in-Fig. 1, so as to be readily removed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is-- 1. In a hat and coat hanger, a support, and a frame pivoted to said support and provided at one end with a hat-holder and at its opposite end with a coat-hook, the coat-hook being pivoted to said frame so as to occupy an approximately vertical position at all adjustments or positions of the frame in its pivotal movements, substantially as described.

2. In a hat and coat hanger, a support, a frame pivoted to the support and provided at one end with a hat-holder, and a coat-hook pivotally connected to the opposite end of the frame and having its journals and supporting portion out of line, substantially as set forth.

3. In a hat and coat hanger, a bracket of approximately right-angular form, a frame comprising spaced members and pivoted intermediate its end portions to the aforesaid bracket, a hat-holder provided at one end of the frame, and a coat-hook having spaced arms pivoted to corresponding end portions of the pivoted frame at the opposite end maintain va vertical position whether the frame assumes a horizontal or vertical relation thereto, said frame being actuated by movement of the coat-hook, substantially as specified.
