DOLL HEAD.
APPLICATION FILED 0073.27, 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO KRAMPE, OF soHAL'KsMHLE, GERMANY.
DOLL-HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 720,703, dated February 17, 1903.
Application filed October 27| 1902. Serial No. 129,046. (No model.)4
To ttZZ whom t mayconoern:
Be it known that I, OTTO KRAMPE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Schalksm iihle,Westphalia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Doll-Heads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to doll-heads, and particularly to that class of doll-heads which have the eyes arranged so as to automatically open and close by gravity as the position of the head is changed.
My invention consists in the arrangement of a device for locking the eyes or lids in the opened or closed position. This device is intended not to be operated by the child, but by others for the purpose of making the child think that the doll has fallen asleep and baby must go to bed or that the doll is broad awake and baby must now get up quickly.
My invention lis illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a dolls head With my improvement in vertical section. Fig. 2 shows a partial cross-section. Figs. 3 to 5 illustrate details on an enlarged scale.
In the construction of my invention I arrange the usual pieces a, carrying on their front sides the pupils b and the lid portions c, at the forward end of an oscillating lever e, which has its pivot on a cross-bar d, as shown, and has secured to its other end the counterweight f, as all this is well known in such like doll-heads. For locking the lever e in position I use a small arm Z, which is pivotally mounted in the following manner: A l'shaped metal-sheet piece g is secured to the inside of the doll-heads wall Zo and limits the lever motion by its lower projection h, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. l. The upper projection o' of the saidpiece g, which enters a recess withinl the wall Za, carries the locking-arm Z, which latter is held in position by a spring-acting side extension m of said projection t', which extension is bent over so as to press upon the arm Z, which has its pivot o received within a hole at in said extension m. Now it will be clear that the locking-arm Z, which extends on the rear side of the head u nder the hair only and is provided with a small knob p, may be conveniently reversed for locking the lever e in position, as shown, for example, in Fig. l. Finally, it may be noted that the construction of my device may be varied without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as clearly stated hereinbefore.
Having now described my invention, I declare that what I claim isl. In an improvement in doll-heads, the combination of an oscillating eye-lever operated by gravity and means for locking said lever in position, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In an improvement in doll-heads, the combination of a doll-head, a lever oscillating therein, pieces at the forward end of said 1ever carrying eye and lid portions, a counterweight at the other end of said lever and an arm adapted to lock and unlock said lever, substantially as described.
OTTO KRAMPE.
