Il/6'ATTOHNEY8 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID BASOH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRESS-SHIELD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,636, dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed February 26,1902. Serial No. 95,671. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID BASCH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shields, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fasteners or clasps for dress-shields; and the objects of my invention are to improve upon such fasteners and enable a dress-shield to be readily and quickly connected and disconnected from an article of wearing-apparel by means of a fastenor of simple and efficient construction.
To these ends my invention consists in a dressshield fastener for carrying out the above objects adapted to be attached to the dress-shield and constructed and arranged and having the general mode of operation substantially as hereinafter fully described and shown in this specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view in vertical section of a waist, showin g a dress-shield in position therein with my invention applied to the dressshield. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail View of a clasp involved in my invention. Fig. 4 is a detail top View of Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
A represents a waist, and which, as usual, is provided with sleeves. (Not shown.)
B represents a dress-shield, which, as usual, comprises two portions, one of which extends into the sleeve of the waist and the other of which extends into the body of the waist.
0 represents a clasp or clasps which are secured to one portion b of the dress-shield. In the drawings I have shown three clasps C; but it will be understood that more or less may be employed, as desired. In the drawings each clasp Otis shown as being secured to the dress-shield by an eyelet or rivet c, which permits of the clasp being swung about the eyelet or rivet, and as comprising two members 0 0 The member 0 is shown as being hinged or pivoted at one end to the part c in order that it may be swung on its pivot to separate its free end from the adjacent end of the member 0. One memberfor example, the part c'--is provided with a detent a which fits in a recess 05, provided in the other member 0 The purpose of the detent c and recess 0 is to hold the two members in engagement. Both members 0 c are provided with outwardlybowed portions 0 arranged opposite to each other to accommodate between them material comprised in an article of wearing-apparel, as a waist. In using the latter the dress-shield is applied in proper position in the waist and is removably held therein by having the clasps engage with the scams 1) of the Waist or with the material comprised in the waist adjacent the seam connecting the sleeve with the waist.
In order that the fastener may engage the article of wearing-apparel, the hinged members are opened and a portion of the waist or other article of wearing-apparel inserted between the outwardly-bowed portions of the members. Then the members are brought together, the detentc entering and pinching a portion of the cloth therein, the members being thus securely maintained in position.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A fastener for dress-shields comprising two members hinged together, one of which is adapted for attachment to the dress-shield, said members being provided with outwardly bowed portions arranged opposite to each other, whereby a portion of an article of wearing-apparel may be secured between said bowed portions, substantially as set forth.
2. A fastener for dress-shields comprising two members hinged together, one of which is adapted for attachment to the dress-shield, said members being provided with outwardlybowed portions arranged opposite to each other, whereby a portion of an article of wearing-apparel maybe secured between said bowed portions, and means at the ends of said members for holding them together, sub stantially as set forth.
3. A fastener for dress-shields, comprising two members hinged together, one of which is adapted for attachment to the dress-shield, and one of said members being provided with a projecting tooth at the end thereof, and the other with a recess cooperating with said tooth for holding the members together, wherebya portion of wearing-apparel may be securely held between the ends of said members, substantially as set forth.
dress-shield, whereby it may move relatively thereto, and means on said members for holding them together, said members being provided with outwardly bowed portions arranged opposite each other for accommodating a portion of an article of wearing-apparel between the same, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
