UNITED 'STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
ONESIME E. MICHAUD, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
' CLOTHES-WASHING MACHINE.
v SPECIFICATION lforming part of Letters Patent No. 715,496, dated December 9, 1902.
Application iled May 19, 1902. Serial No. 107,947. (No model.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ONESIME E. MICHAUD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented anew and useful Clothes-Washing Machine, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to appliances for washing clothes, and has for its principal objects to produce a simple, inexpensive, and durable washing device adapted to be detachably secured to an ordinary washtub; also, to secure other advantages hereinafter set forth.
It consists of a revoluble platform adapted to receive a washtub and a circular ribbed plate arranged to enter said tub and adapted to constitute a rubbing-board for the clothes in said tub.
It also consists in the parts and in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,wl1ich form part of this specification, and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur, Figure l is a side View of my device with a washtub shown in crosssection and with the rubbing-board elevated clear of the tub. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. Sis a horizontal view, partly in section and partly in plan.
My device consists of a stand 1, mounted upon uprights 2,which constitute legs therefor. Centrally mounted upon said stand is a plate 3, having rollers 4 radially arranged thereon. A circular platform 5 is revolubly mounted upon said rollers by means of a disk 6, mounted upon the under side of said platform 5 and having a bolt or pin 7 connected thereto, which journals in a hole provided therefor in the center of said plate 3 and said stand 1. A lever or bar 8 is hinged on one end to the lower part of one of said uprights 2, and at its other end said bar is pivotally connected to the end of a second bar 9. About the middle of said last-mentioned bar 9 is a piece 10,which extends at rightangles thereto and has an upright 11 pivotally connected thereto. Said upright 11 is centrally mounted at right angles to a circular plate 12, which constitutes a rubbing-board. Said rubbing-board 12 has corrugations 13 on its under side, and said bar 9 is extended beyond said piece 10 to constitute a handle for raising and lowering the same. The leg 2, to which said bar 8 is hinged, is preferably extended above said stand 1 to constitute a rest 14 for said rubbing-board 12 when the same is not in use. In order to hold said rubbingboard in an elevatedv position when the same is not in use, a horizontal bar 15 is connected to said table-legs" 2 to constitute a stop and to hold said bar 8 against moving backwardly farther than desired. Two horizontally-movable arms 16 are pivotally mounted on one end to said extension 14; at a point just above said table 1 and parallel therewith. A spring r17 normally holds the free ends of said arm 16 against said plate 3. A friction-wheel 18 is normally mounted on the underside of said circular platform 5 in position to bear against said 'arms 16 near their free end when said platform is rotated. Stops 19 are mounted on said table 1 in position to prevent said arms 16 from moving too far and also to prevent said wheel 18 from passing beyond the ends thereof when said table is revolved. One of said legs 2 is also preferably extended upwardly to constitute a support 2O for a clothes-wringer 2l to be mounted on the upper end thereof. A circular plate 22 is also provided upon said circular platform 5 to rest the bottom of a washtub 23 thereon and also to assist in centering the same upon said platform 5.
1. A Washing-machine comprising a stand, a platform revolubly mounted thereon, a friction-wheel en the under side of said platform, two arms pivotally mounted on said stand below the platform on either side of said friction-wheel and a spring connecting said arms, a tub on said platform, and a vertically-adjustable rubbing-board adapted to enter said tub, substantially as described.
2. A washing-machine comprising a stand, a platform revolubly mounted thereon, a friction-wheel on the under side of said platform, two arms pivotally mounted on said stand below the platform on either side of said friction-wheel and a spring connecting said arms,
