lNITED `IATES LEEANDERSON, or PARIS, TEXAS, ASSIeNoR on ONE-HALE To HARRISON S. BETTES, on PARIS, TEXAS.
NURSING-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 714,552, dated November 25, 1902.
Application led May 21, 1902. Serial No. 108,383. (No model.)
To all whom `lined/,zj concern:
Be it known that I, LEE ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing atParis, in the county of Lamar, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursing-Bottles, of which-thefollowing is a Specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a nursing-bottle, 1o` and particularly to a structure having a removable side wall by means of which the bottle may be readily cleansed.
The invention has for an object to provide an open body having straight body-walls one side of which is completely open and a removable cover for said side, with means for retaining the same in position.
\ A further object is to provide a filling-opening and neck at one side of the bottle and a zo lug at the opposite side to which the means for retaining the removable side wall is secured.
Another object of the invention is to produce an improved construction of fastening z 5 means comprising awire adapted to pass from the neck to the lug and have an extended bearing upon the removable side wall.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth 3o and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of the bottle; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 3,\a vertical cross-section; Fig. 4, a detail perspective of the fastening means, and Fig. 5 a plan showing a modified form of fastening means.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
The letter A designates the bottle, which is formed with a straight body A of any desired configuration and an integral side wall A2, the opposite side being completely open, so as to permit the introduction of a cloth or brush for the purpose of thoroughly cleansing all the parts thereof, as the complete interior of the bottle is open at this point. At opposite ends of the bottle a lling-neck A and a fastening-lug A4 are provided for the 5o purpose of receiving the securing means for holding the removable side wall B in position.
This removable side wall may be formed with a ilange B, fitting within the body, and a packing-ring B2 may be employed, if found necessary, between the edge of the body A and the removable side wall forming the cover.
Various forms of fastening or securing devices may be used; but as showing one desirable construction thereof I illustrate in Fig. 4 a wire fastener C, having at one end a `loop C to engage the filling-neck A8 of the bottle and :It the opposite end a spring-hook C2 to engage the lug A4. Intermediate of the ends enlarged bearing portions C3 are formed for the purpose of securing an extended bear-4 ing upon the upper face of the side wall B. This fastening device may be very readily applied and securely holds the removable side wall in position, while when it is desired to cleanse the bottle it is only necessary to disengage the hook C2 from the lug 'to permit the ready removal of the side.
In Fig. 5 a slightly-modified form of fastener D is shown, provided at one end with a loop D for embraciugthe neck A3 and at the opposite end with a hook D2 to engage the lug A4, while intermediate of the ends bent portions D3 are formed from the spring material of the fastener, so as to secure an extended bearing upon the face of the wall B and also permit a longitudinal Spring extension of the fastener when it is applied in use.
It will be seen that this bottle when the side is removed is completely open similar to a dish and can be readily cleansed without the necessity of soaking or other treatment to remove the remains of previous food, and therefore renders the use of a number of feedingbottles unnecessary.
This bottle can also be very cheaply molded and is not liable to be'easily broken, as is frequently the case with blown bottles. Furthermore, the fastening device securely holds the removable side in position, and by a simple movement the side can be instantly removed and the bottle thoroughly washed.
It will be obvious that changes may be made in the details of construction and configuration of the bottle, as well as in the character Vof fastening device used, without departing from the spirit of the invention as deiined by the appended claims.
IOO
Having described my invention and set forth its merits, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A nursing-bottle having a body portion provided at opposite ends with a neck and fastening-lug, a fixed side Wall upon said body, a removable side Wall equal in size to said bottle-body, and means engaging said neck and lug for retaining said side in position; substantially as specified.
2. A nursing-bottle comprising a body provided with a xed side and having at opposite ends a neck and fastening-lug, a removable side Wall to said bottle, a spring-Wire having a loop at one end to engage said neck, anda hook at its opposite end to engage said lug; substantially as specified.
3. A nursing-bottle comprising a straight open body having a filling-opening therein at one end and an integral side Wall, a removable side of equal size to said body to engage the open side thereof, projections at opposite ends of the body, and means extending from one projection to the other to bear upon the removable side and hold it in position; substantially as specified.
4. A nursing-bottle comprising a straight open body having a filling-opening therein at one end, a removable side to engage the open side of the body, projections at opposite ends of the body, a retaining-Wire having a loop to engage a projection at one end, and a hook to engage the other projection with intermediate enlarged portions for securing a bearing upon the removable side; substantially as speoied.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
