Description

(No Model) W. D. BUTZ. NURSING BOTTLE.
No. 586,011. Patented July 6,1897.
Z i M NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
lVAIIlER D. BUTZ, OF N ORRISTOW'N PENNSYLVANIA.
NURSING-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,011, dated July 6, 1897.
Application filed August 8,1896. Serial No. 602,115. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VALTER D. BUTZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
The object of myinvention is to prevent nipples being accidentally detached from nursing-bottles while being used by infants.
Generally nipples as heretofore made can be detached by a slight pull, and the result is that the milk is accidentally discharged. By my invention I so attach the nipple to the bottle that it cannot be removed by the infant.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a nursing-bottle, illustrating my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a nipple. Fig. 3 is aview of a modification.
A is the nursing-bottle of the ordinary form, having at its upper end a screw-threaded section a and an extension a.
B is the nipple, and, as illustrated in Fig.
2, this nipple has a flange b at its lower end.
D is a clamp having a flange d adapted to extend over the flange I) of the nipple and having a screw-threaded section d adapted to the screw-threaded section a of the bottle. In attaching the nipple to the bottle it is placed over the extension at, and the clamp thus looking the nipple securely to the bottle. The flange of the nipple will also form a gasket to prevent the escape of the milk from the bottle through the screw-threaded joint.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a nipple having the lower portion extended and the flange dispensed with. In this instance the bottle has a tapered extension over which the nipple is placed, and the fastener D has a tapered extension or flange 01 so that the nipple is confined between the two extensions, locking it securely to the bottle.
I preferably so arrange the clamp, which is made in the present instance of metal, that it is not exposed to the contents of the bottle. I11 some instances the nipple may be permanently secured to the fastener D, although I prefer to construct it as shown in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of a nursing-bottle having an extension at, a flanged clamp D adapted to be secured to the bottle and a yielding rubber nipple secured to the bottle by the flanged clamp, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a nursing-bottle having an extension a and a screw-threaded portion forming a shoulder, a screw-threaded clamp D adapted to the bottle and having a flange, a nipple B made of yielding material having a flange over which the flange of the clamp extends and by which it is held to the bottle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
