UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. COON, OF TROY, NEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO OOON BROTHERS, OF TROY, NEIV YORK, A FIRM, AND R. L. MCDONALD d: (10., OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
TAB FOR SUSPENDER CONNECTION TO GARMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,925, dated June 24, 1902.
Application filed August 1,1901. Serial No. 70,488. (No model.)
To all whorit it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. Coon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tabs for Suspender Connections to Garments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to such improvements; and it consists of the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a View in front elevation of a shirt-waist and attachments embodying my invention, the sleeves of the garment being broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view, on an enlarged scale, of one of the links adapted to extend through a slit in the body of the garment and connect an interiorly-located suspender-end with an exteriorly-located trousers-button. Fig. 3 is a similar view of a link inserted in a broken-away portion of the garment and with the suspenderend connected therewith.
The object of the invention is to properly connect the suspenders, located interiorly of the shirt-waist or like garment, with the trousers, located exteriorly of the shirt-waist; and the invention consists in providing the shirt-waist with a series of slitted apertures near its waist-line and in projecting therethrough links adapted severally to connect at their inner ends with the respective suspender-ends and provided exteriorly with means for connecting therewith the trousers, said links being detachably connected with the body of the garment adjacent to the respective slits.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a shirt-waist having the sleeves2 broken away, and the dotted lines 3 represent the body portions of the suspenders, located wholly within the waist and having divergent ends 4. The
garment is provided near its waist-line with a series of slittcd apertures 5, corresponding in number and position with the ordinary trousers-buttons. Inserted and detachably secured in each of these apertures is a link 6, provided on its upper inner end with a button 7 and in its lower end with the buttonholeslit 8. As a means for detachably securing the link to the body of the garment I have shown the same provided with a contracted middle portion 9, adapted to fit the slit 5, while the body of the link on opposite sides of the contracted portion is of materially greater width, thereby forming the notches 10, adapted to receive the body portions of the garment at the ends of the slits 5, and thereby prevent a relative movement of the garment-body and link. The link is preferably made of flexible material, permitting the same to be folded along its longitudinal median line to permit the same to be inserted in the slit 5. The link may be made of any desired form or material and detachably secured to the body of the garment in any known manner.
In use the suspender-ends are connected with the several buttons '7 on the respective links and remain wholly concealed within the garment and connected therewith through the links during repeated applications of the garment to and removals from the person of the wearer, it not being necessary in removing or applying the waist to disconnect the trousers nor is it necessary in connecting or disconnecting the trousers to disturb the connection between the links and suspenderends, the connection between the links and body of the garment serving to retain the links with their buttonholed ends exposed ready for attachment to the trousers when desired.
The shoulder portions of the garment may be provided with loops 12, adapted to support the body portions of the suspenders.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A flexible link or tab for the purpose specified having attaching means at the opposite ends thereof and provided intermedi ately of the ends With means for detachable and positive connection with a garment; substantially as specified.
2. A link or tab for the purpose specified formed of flexible material having attaching means at opposite ends thereof and provided intermediately of the ends at an edge thereof with means for detachable and positive connection With a garment; substantially as specified.
3. A link or tab for the purpose specified formed of flexible material having a button at one end and a buttonhole at the opposite end, and provided intermediately of the ends with notches extending inward from the edges thereof for detachable connection with a gar-- ment; substantially as specified.
4. Means for attaching suspenders to trousers through a slit in a shirt-waist, consisting of a tab of flexible material having attaching devices at each end, and notches in one or both edges forming a neck and shoulders adjacent to said neck.
5. Means for connecting suspenders with trousers through a slit in a shirt-waist, consisting of a tab of flexible material having a button at one end, a buttonhole at the other, and notches in each edge forming shoulders to engage with said slit.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of July, 1901.
CHAS. A. OOON.
