Description

@nimh tetes strnt EBEN W. KEYES, OE BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. Letters Patent No. 70,003, dated October 22, 1867.
TOY GUE.
itlgs Stimuli refemi tu in tlgtsc httets ntnzt mn mating pitt nf tige time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:V
Be it known that I, EBEN W. KEYES, of Boston, in the county of Suolk, and State ot' Massachusetts, have invente'd certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cues; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of rny invention consists in so constructing a toy cue that the striking end may be pushed back inte n. cylinder, und from thence muy be suddenly snapped out, so as to hit and impel the bell.'
To enable others skilled in the art to make und use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and use. In the drawingsi Figure 1 is nu elevation of my improved cue.
Figure 2 is n section of the sume.
I construct my cue as follows: K represents tho stock; L, a. hollow tube; M, a. rod sliding within it. The rod M has a. knob, N, nttnched to its inner end, und n spring, S, which has n. tendency to throw the rod out of the borrel; but this never trikes pince, as the knob N is checked by the stop T. When the rod M is pushed back into the barrel thc lntch O catches on to the knob N, und thus holds it in position. It will be Seen by inspection of fig. 2 that if the latch O is pressed down the rod M will be released, and will be seit by the spring S as far out of the barrel as the knob N and stop T will permit it to go.
s I um well aware that toy guns have been inode having a barrel, L, rod M, spring, and stop, all. similar to my cue, with the exception that in my invention the rod M snaps out beyond the end of the barrel, so that it can be used as n. eue for strikin` u ball when the ball is plnced on nn nlley. The ordinary toy gun can only be used for impelling small bulls placed within the gun, and in no cese cnn they be used for iulpelling a billird or ten-pin ball. t Y
Whnt I claim as my invcntioinnnd desire to secure by Letters Potent, is-
A cue, consisting of' a. handle, K, borrel L, rod M, und trigger O, mode substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
EBEN W. KEYES.
