COMBINED SHAVlNG-BRUSH AND SOAP-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters IPatent No. 692,484, dated February 4, 1902.
. Serial No. 73,591. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it .may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. SALISBURY, of Boston,in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Shaving-Brush and Soap-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has forits object to provide a combined shaving-brush and soap-holder of which the handle portion of the brush shall constitute a holder not only for the brush when the latter is not in use, but also for a tubular stick or cake of soap.
The invention consistsin the improvements which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of the soap-holding brushhandle and its cover, said parts being disconnected. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the shaving-brush detached from the handle. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the tubular cake or stick of soap. Fig. 4 represents a sectional View of the soap-holding brush-handle with the soap and shavingbrush packed or stowed therein, and Fig. 5 represents a sectional View showing the brush connected with the handle in position for use.
The same letters of reference indicate the same parts in all the drawings.
In the drawings, 1) represents an inner tube, which may be made of sheet metal or any other suitable material and is provided at one end with an internal coupling member, here shown as a screw-thread b.
a represents an outer tube, which surrounds the inner tube 1) and is separated therefrom by an annular space or chamber adapted to receive a tubular stick or cake f of shavingsoap. The inner and outer tubes are connected at one end by an annular connectingpiece 0, which forms the bottom of the soap holding chamber.
d represents the stem of a shaving-brush (Z said stem being provided with a coupling member adapted to engage the member 1) of the inner tube 1), the coupling member of the stem being in this case an external screwthread cl. The brush is formed to beinserted in the inner tube 5, as shown in Fig. 4, and
is prevented from dropping through the internally-threaded end of said tube by suitable means, such as an inwardly-projecting screw-thread, the internal diameter of which is less than the maximum diameter of the brushstem. A cover 9 is provided, which fits the open end of the outer tube a and when in place confines the soap-stick and the brush, as indicated in Fig. 4. When the brush is required for use, it is Withdrawn from the inner tube 1), and its coupling member 01 is engaged with the coupling member b of the inner tube in such manner that the brush projects from the inner tube, as indicated in Fig. 5, so that the structure formed by the inner and outer tubes and the connecting-piece c constitutes a handle for the brush.
It will be seen that the device above described constitutes a compact holder or package adapted to contain a shaving-brush and a stick of soap when said parts are not required for use and constitutes a brush-handle when the brush is engaged therewith, as shown in Fig. 5.
The tube or casing Z) may be used simply for the storage of a shaving-brush which is adapt ed to be used independently.
I claim- 1. A combined brush -handle and soapholder comprising an inner tube or casing havinga coupling member at one end adapted to engage a complemental coupling member on a shaving-brush and a brush-receiving mouth at the other end, said tube being formed to contain the brush, and an outer tube or casing connected at one end with one end of the inner member, and separated from the latter by an annular space adapted to receive a tubular soap stick or cake, said outer tube having an open end or mouth surrounding the mouth of the inner tube.
2. A combined brush and soap-holder comprising a handle composed of an inner tube having an internal screw-thread at one end, an outer tube connected at one end with the threaded end of the inner tube, and separated from the latter by an annular soap space or chamber adapted to contain a tubular cake of soap, and a brush having an externallythreaded shank or stem adapted to engage the internal thread of the inner tube, said brush and its stem being formed to enter the said inner tube.
3. A combined brush handle and soapholder comprising an inner tube having an internal screw-thread at one end, an outer tube connected at one end with the threaded end of the innertube, and separated from the latter byan annular soap space or chamber adapted to contain a tubular cake of soap, and a cover adapted to close the open end of the outer tube.
4:. A combined brushholder and soapholder' comprising an inner casing formed to contain a brush, and an outer casing con n-ected at one end with one end of the inner casing and separated from the latter by a space adapted to receive a tubular soap stick or cake.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
