JULIA E. KENDALL, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
WRINKLE-REMOVING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 692,303, dated February 4, 1902. Application filed October 26, 1900. Serial No. 34,621. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIA E. KENDALL, of Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in VVrinkle-Removing Devices, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to construct a device for removing wrinkles from the forehead and also for preventing the formation of wrinkles in the forehead and also for preventing the formation of wrinkles between the eyes just over the nose, ordinarily produced by scowling.
In accordance with this invention a flexible band is employed having an even contacting surface, to the ends of which elastic straps are secured, which by passing around the head hold said flexible band snugly in position on and in intimate contact with the forehead, yet so far as my invention is concerned any other means may be provided for holding said flexible band in position. The flexible band is curved in a direction transversely its length from end to end, or substantially so, to better conform to and more intimately contact with the forehead of the wearer, which is more or less curved from the eyebrows upward. The flexible band has two curved or arched portions so disposed as to occupy a position above the eyes of the wearer, and said band also has a downwardly-extended projection from the lower edge, which extends down between the eyes and onto the nose for a short distance. The band is made in such a manner that it may be reversed, so as to be worn either side out.
Figure 1 shows a front View of a device for removing wrinkles embodying this invention; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the flexible band, showing particularlyits transverse curvature.
The flexible band will be made of satin or any other suitable material and is formed of two or any other number of pieces connected together to thereby obviate any tendency to stretch when drawn tightly onto the forehead. The flexible band has two like curved or arched portions a a, disposed to occupy positions on the forehead directly above the eyes.
The curvature given to said curved or arched portions will be sufficient to enable the band to fit down to the eyes and yet not cover the eyes. The flexible band has also a projection I) on its lower edge at a point intermediate its length, which extends down between the eyes and onto the nose for a short distance, said projection I) being especially desirable for removing or preventing the formation of wrinkles caused by scowling. The flexible band is curved in a direction transversely its length, as represented in Fig. 2, and the curvature thus given to it adapts it to be drawn into intimate contact with the forehead of the wearer. The flexible band is made reversible, so that it may be worn either side out. The band will be made of any suitable length, and its ends have attached to them elastic straps c c, which are made of suitable length to pass around the head of the wearer, and a suitable fastening is provided for the ends of said elastic straps.
The elastic straps admit of adjustment of the device to heads of different sizes and also act to draw the flexible band tightly onto the forehead, and the effect produced by thus tightly drawing the band is to lay the muscles flat and draw the skin smooth and incidentally in practice results in relieving headaches, dzo. As the muscles are thus laid flat and held in such position, with the skin drawn smoothly, the wrinkles are removed and the formation of wrinkles prevented.
I claim 1. A device for removing wrinkles from the forehead, comprising a band curved transversely its length, composed of several layers of flexible material having an even contacting surface and provided with arched portions above the eyes, and straps for retaining said band in intimate contact with the forehead, substantially as described.
2. A device for removing wrinkles from the forehead, comprising a band curved transversely its length composed of several layers of flexible material having an even contacting surface and provided with arched portions and a downwardly-extended projection from the lower edge, and straps for retaining said band in intimate contact with the forehead, substantially as described. 7
In testimony whereof I have name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
JULIA E. KENDALL.
