HORSE-HITGH ING DEVI CE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 697,039, dated April 8, 1902.
Application filed May 4, 1901. Serial No- 58.707- (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR W. SWANBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-I-Iitching Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a grapple by means of which a horse can be made secure to almost any object.
In the accompanying drawing is shown a perspective view of my improved horse-hitching device, in which the jaws are shown par tially opened.
The jaws 1 and 2 are curved, having their free ends 3 in hook form. The jaw 1 has its end 4 bifurcated. The end 5 of the jaw 2 is located between the arms of the jaw 4. The ends of both jaws are located between the ears 6, and a pin 7 holds the parts together in a pivotal manner. The ears 6 extend from the plate 8, and this plate has two holes 9 and 10. A coiled spring 11 connects the jaws. To the jaw 1 is pivoted a yoke 13, which supports a grooved roller 12, and the jaw 2 has a yoke 15 pivoted thereto, which supports a roller 14.
To the jaw 1 is pivoted a clip 16, to which is connected a strap 17, which passes over the roller 14 and through the eye 9, forming a loop and returning through the eye 10, over the groovedwheel 12, and connected to a clip 18, w2hich has a pivotal connection with the jaw The tie-rope 19 is connected to the strap 17. The jaws are opened by hand sufficiently to receive the object to which they are attached and are then liberated, the spring drawing the jaws together. The horse tied to the rope 19 will pull on the strap 17, thereby drawing the jaws together, and the greater the strain on the rope the greater will the jaws impinge upon the object to which they are attached and will securely hold the horse.
I claim as my invention- 1. A horse-hitching device comprising two jaws pivoted together, a yoke pivoted to each jaw, a wheel supported by each yoke, a strap having its ends connected to the jaws, the end of the strap connected to one jaw passing around the wheel supported by the opposite jaw.
2. A horse-hitching device comprising two jaws pivoted to a plate, the plate having two holes, a swinging yoke supported by each jaw, a roller supported by each yoke, a strap having its ends connected with the jaws, the end of the strap connected with one jaw passing around the wheel supported by the opposite jaw, the strap passing through the holes in the plate.
ARTHUR W. SWANBERG.
