Description

A. E. WESTBERG.
LARIAT NOOSE CLIP.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.28, 1912.

W] T NESSE 5 ANDREW E, K 'ESTBERGr, OF FIVE CREEKS TOWNSHIP, CLAY COUNTY, KANSAS.
LARIAT-NOOSE CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Potentetlfirt, "t, HMS,
Application filed August 28, 1912. Serial No. 717,463.
To all whom it may 0011mm Be it lillOWIl that I, ANDREW WEST- menu, a citizen of the United States, residin in Five Creeks township, in the county oi" Clay and State ,of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lariat-Noose Clips, of which the following is :1 specification.
lily invention relates to devices for releasing uninuils from a hitching strap or rope and is especially adapted to use with e htriat or halter when. by reason of the struggling of the animal or for other cause, the rope or halter has been druivneizyemely taut.
The objects are to provide ti simple, light, readily u iplied and easily released clip, the construction of which will be more readily understood by reference to the following description and accompanying drewiu s, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my device with a portion of the casing removed, exposing the locking mechanism in process of opening. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View illustrating one of the clip jaws in disassembled, relation. 3 is a "front elevation.
with parts of the clip ji ws broken away to clearly disclose the assembled relation of the parts when in locked positioniand Fig. i 2. detail View of side 9. 1
Similar numerals indicate like per ls throughout the severe}; views.
The openings are merely to recluse the weight where they will not sacrifice required strength. For the purpose of increasing strength where required, the jaws made "thicker tit The end A of the luiiter or love is passed. through the openings 3 end secured to the body of the rope, thus forming H, hinge at that end of the clip. Within the jaw of the side 1 is pivoted, at 'i', the lever 6 and within the jaw of the side 2 is pivoted, at 9, a clamp 8, The rod 11, across the interior of 1, carries the spring 10 which serves to hold the clamp 8 in position when the device is locked, the spring being curved at in such a manner as to bear against the under side of the curve ll when the clip is closed. The bloek 12 is merely for the purpose of keeping, the clamp 8 from drop ping below the position o'l engugenientwith the opposite jaw when the ehunp is disen gaged.
To operate 1ny deviee;-tlie same is closed by pressin g the jaws together, the ehunp 8 engaging the flange 13 of the lever (B and the spring 10 forcing the clamp tightly against such lever holds them in on approxiimitely horizontal position, thus securely locking the clip. To release the some. the levee- (S is reised'till, by the engagement with the clamp 8, it has thrown the some free, allowing the jaws to separate.
ll ziviug thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Potent is,
The eonibiimtion with. a hiriat, of a noose Clip adopted to be attached to the noosed end thereof, said clip including :i pair of clip jaws, each of said jaws being provided with a terminal aperture, said aperture lieing adapted to receive the terminal of said lariahe hook-shaped pawl pivoted to the first of said jaws, a locking dog pivotally attached to 'ihe set'ond of said jaws and adopted to coi'iperub with saidpmvl in loclo ing snid clip jaws in closed position, and a spring carried by the second oi said clip jaws for nornmlly holding said pawl and dog in looking relotion.
