SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,309, dated August 27, 1901.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES GENTLE, a citizen of Canada, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Wentworth andProvince of Ontario, Canada,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, Ranges, or the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in stoves, ranges, and the like; and it consists of a certain push-bar with button connected to a slidable tray of a cook-stove oven and the door thereof in such a manner that when the push-bar is pushed by means of the foot on the button the tray slides outward and the oven-door automatically and simultaneously opens to allow said tray to slide outward to a proper and desired distance.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide a stove in which the 0ven-door may be opened and the tray containing cooking matter may be partially projected out from the stove and exposed for examination and other purposes; second, to provide a stove in which the oven-door may be opened to its full extent and the tray containing the food brought out from the stove to its full extent in order to more fully expose to view the contents of the tray, and, third, to afford facilities for the proper and easy accomplishment of the above and of readjusting the tray to position in the stove and of closing the ovendoor Without handling and without stooping. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of an ordinary cook stove or range, showing mechanism attached to the stove in proximity to the opening part of the oven-door. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the stove, partly in section, showing the door-opening and tray-sliding mechanism connected to the stove and to the tray. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of a part of the stove, the door opened, the tray slid outward to its full extent,and connected mechanism. In the drawings the stove or range is indicated by A, the oven base or floor by B, the oven-door by O, and the sliding tray by D.
E is the push-bar and is pivotally connected to the arm F at 8, and the upper end of the arm F is pivotally connected to the lugs H, which form a part of the side plate of the stove A. Said lugs are located near to the lower part of the opening end of the ovendoor 0. The outer and upper end of the pushbar E has a push-button head 2, and the other end of said bar is pivotally connected at 5 to the crank J, which is securely connected to the lower end of the vertical shank K of the operating-lever M, which is securely connected to the upper end of said vertical shank. The lever M rests upon the base B of the oven. The slidable tray D has a pin 6 on its under side and rigid therewith, and this pin 6 operates in the slot 7 of the lever M when the push-bar E is operated, and consequently forces the tray D to outward position, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. The tray rests upon the base of the oven and is of a size to slide easily in and out of the oven. The front part of the tray has an upper projecting flange T to retain the articles being cooked in position on the tray when the tray is being operated. Onefront upper side of the tray hasa cam P to engage the small incline wheel or roller R, which is journaled to the inner and lower part of the oven-door Gin a position to allow said cam to enter on the under side of said incline roller or wheel in order that the cam shall be capable of lifting the door from its ordinary latch S, as in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This is accomplished when the tray is engaged against the inner side of the door to open the same to allow the tray to proceed outward and simultaneously with the opening of the door by means of the push-bar. To prevent the tray from tipping when out to its full extent, side-stops N are provided on the sides of the oven above the tray and near to the oven side of the stove. The tray is provided with light bearing flanges or teats 8 on the under side, as the case may be, to overcome any undue friction of the tray on its base.
The operation of the device is as follows:
Vhen it is desirable to open the oven-door and at the same time to allow the tray to protrude slightly out of the stove, the button 2 of the push-bar E is slightly pressed downward by the foot. At this operation the vertical shank K is revolved a distance by means of the crank J, which is pivotally connected to the end of the push-bar and to the lower end of the shank K. WVhen the said shank revolves, the upper slotted and crank partM of said shank is brought toward the ovendoor 0 of the, stove, and with it the tray D, by means of the pin 6 of the tray being operated upon by the slotted part 7 of the crank M. By the above operation the cam P of the tray engages the incline wheel or roller R of the door 0 to lift the door from its latch S to allow the tray to open the door. Vhen it is desirable to bring the tray out to its full extent, theoperation is identical to the above operation. The button of the push-bar must of necessity be pushed downward to its limit. The tray may be pushed inward by the foot to resume its normal position, and also the door.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of this invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope thereof; hence \Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cook-stove, an oven, a tray capable of slidingin the oven, apin on the underside of the tray, lugs on the side of the stove near to the opening and lower part of the ovendoor, a push-bar With button-head, an arm pivotally connected to said lugs and to said push-bar, a crank resting on said oven-floor and beneath said tray, a slot in said crank to receive the pin of the tray, a shank extending downward from the slotted crank, a lower crank secured to the lower end of said shank and pivotally connected to the inner end of said pushrbar, substantially as described and set forth.
2. In a cook-stove, an oven, a tray capable of sliding in the oven, a pin on the under side of the tray, a cam on the tray, an oven-door, a roller or incline on the inner side of the door for said cam to engage, lugs on the side of the stove near to the opening and lower part of the door, a push-bar with buttonhead, an arm pivotally connected to said lugs and to said push-bar, a crank on the ovenfloor, a slot in said crank to receive said pin, a shank extending downward from the slotted crank, a lower crank secured to the lower end of said shank, and pivotally connected to the end of said push-bar, substantially as described and set forth.
