UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR HAROLD TRICK, or NILES, oI-IIo.
CUFF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679,799, dated August 6, 1901.
Application filed May 1, 1901. Serial No. 58,299. (No model.)
To otZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR HAROLD TRICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Niles, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ouff- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to securing devices for holding a cuff in proper operative relation with the wristband of ashirtor other garment; and it consists of certain novel features of combination and construction of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
One object of my invention is to provide a device of the character specified which will enable the cuff to be adjustably secured in the desired position and at the same time permit the same to be readily removed without disturbing the position of the attachment.
Other objects and advantages will be made fully apparent from the following specification, considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which-"- Figure 1 is aperspective View showing my invention as applied to use upon an ordinary cuff and wristband. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of my invention complete ready for use. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of my device and contiguous parts of the garments with which it cooperates. perspective detail View showing the means employed for holding the body portion of my device in adjustable engagement with the wristband.
For convenience in referring to the elements of my invention and their cooperating accessories numerals will be employed, of which 1 indicates a wristband of the usual construction, except that a buttonhole 2 is provided, preferably in the middle portion thereof, in which I seat the bolt 3, which extends loosely through the slotted opening 4, provided in the body portion 5 of my improved cuff-holding device, the extreme free end of the body being bent upon itself, thereby providing the Fig. 4 is a lapping end 6, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the object of said spring-tongue being to reliably engage the contiguous portion of the buttonhole or flap section 8 of the cuff, and thereby more reliably hold the same against casual disengagement.
I The bolt 3 is provided with a milled head or handle 9, whereby the bolt may be freely rotated in order to securely bind the body portion in engagement with the contiguous part of the wristband. The end of the bolt 3 carries a substantially semispherical button or anchoring member 10, said button being preferably so mounted upon the end of the bolt thatit cannot casually slip off of the same, while upon said bolt intermediate the head 9 and the button 10 I dispose the button 11,- designed to cooperate with the button 10 and securely hold the wristband in cooperation with the body portion 5 of my securing device, it being understood that the buttons 10 and 11 may be moved toward or away from each other, as desired. When the buttons are separated sufficiently, the body portion 5 may be readily moved longitudinally in order that the overlapping end 6 may reach outward sufficiently to engage and hold the section in the desired position, the hook formed by the overlapping end 6 being designed to take through a buttonhole in the cud, as above set forth. When hooked into the buttonhole of the cuff, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the spring-tongue 7 will engage a portion of the cuif and securely hold the same until released.
My improved cuff-holder may be made any preferred size and of any suitable material, and while I have described the preferred construction and combination of parts deemed necessary in materializ'ing my invention it will be understood that I desire to comprehend in this application all substantial equiva lents and substitutes therefor.
Having th us fully described my invention and the manner of using the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described cuff-holding device 4 In testimony whereof I affix my signature comprising the slotted body portion 5 having in presence of two witnesses. the overlapping end 6 provided with an in'- t tegrai spring-tongue 7, all substantially as I I EDGAR HAROLD TRICK. 5 specified, in combination with-an anchoring- Witnesses:
