DOME FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED III/Iv 23. 1917.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.

illustrated in (the 'accompanying (drawings,
that '-forin part -of the same. l
The principal objects'v ofthe present in* vention'are, to eliminate the diliiculties, inconveniences, and vannoyancesdue to the accidental unfastening of this classofl device'and todevise a .form of fastener which will "lock absolutely secure' against-f acci` dental disengagement, 'but which` may be Vfastened or unfastened very easily without the fabric to which it `isusecured damaging thereby. obvia't'ing the' tearing` of garments madeof fine fabrics. t"
A still further object offfastei'ier which kinay be made with uniformity ineX'trem'ely small sizes` and in,
which lthe number l. ofl parts and` mechanical operations ,are reduced to Ythe minimum,
' consequently minimizingfthe Acost of 'manu` facture.
The princip'il Afeatures of the* inventionl consist in the novel formation of a pairof yengaging plate members, whereby a headed projection upon one member isnheld withv the-'flange of the hea'd .in positive locking engagement with thefedges of aslot formed inA theAY 'ther member by afproje'cting por-A tion-offone member spring engaging a projectingportion .of theother member and'` whereby thev headed member is .directed into and out of-engaging contactwith the slot-- ted member l:by :an inclined surface arranged at one end .ofthesloh i ."In the accompanying upon an enlarged scale, of a fastener constructed fin accordance with this invention, the parts being shown in the position of beingfplaced together. n
Fig. 2 is a sectional view similar to F 1 showing the parts in the locked position.
Fig. v3 is a plan view, showing the mem-` bers in the position illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the headed member.

It' is found in practice thatsuch "Spring holding fasteners vary considerably .in their. degree of strength,-consequentlyone--be very stiff to fastengand .unfasten rand {anothei`willcomeapart Iwith a very slight .asf this .class of ,devicei's niade'in'very small sizes itis impossible tol obtain anydegree of accuracy the ina-king and settingioffthe spring]y y i* Y The present'invention .eliminates ,allfhese difficulties Land lprovides a 'ffastener Iwhich will "be simpler VYand stronger-Fand also cheapervto manufacture than the spring holding kind,- The domeineniberl is .preffl erably'` formed ofcircularshape from ltfhin`r sheet inet-al,` having the dome heid-,2' centrally arranged. vSurrounding thehead2 isan annular rib 4 up in the metaly coincident with orsuccessively followingtlie formation of theghead..
The mating `member 5, which. is,l preferably stampedfup in. circularlform of corre 'sr ending vl size with the l .member l, is pro-f.v

arched transverselyV to correspond with the n Patented-repita-.rares Applicatonfiled May'23,1917 Seri'alNoaWOiSSO. l i Y 3 which is spun orpressed shape .ofJ the, head, -shown particularly; .inf Y Fig. 5.1 and at the open side 7 the plate 5 is formed with a slot or notch 9 arranged in central alinement with the canopy and adapted to receive the neck 4 of the dome, so that when the dome is pressed into position with the neck engaging the end of the slot or notch 9. the metal of the plate will engage the underside of the head, thus forming a secure and positive engagement` i Copies of this `patentmay be obtained for The plato 5 is formedwith one or more detents 10 pressed in the metal which are adapted to engage the annular rib. The material of the plate is very thin and springs readily so that these detents V10 will vreadily slip over the rib when the members are brought into ,engagement and vpressed transversely and When so engaged the members are securely locked from accidentalv isguided by the inclined end surface 13 to bring the neck portion intol the'notch `or slot 9fand Ythe `spring engagementl of lthe detents 10 with the rib 3 holds it 'in place. Then in this position kthe two members cannot be separated by an outward pull but are frequired to be moved longitudinally in a direction in reverse to the pull andas the pull-of the garment will be in the direction to hold the dome at the end of theslotjin lockingengagement the garment can not be accidentally parted. l Y f 'j c When the fastener visto bedisconnected the members are pressed longitudinally so as to spring lthe detents over the engaging rrb.
Bland,` move the head out of the slot or notch l9. The curved surfacerl at the back end of the canopy directs thehead out- Wardly so that the membersseparate freely, there being no projecting vportion v upon which thehead may catch in its removal. This is a very important feature of the invention andV insures a smoothl and easy operation in both fastening and releasing operations.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention is i l. A dome fastener comprising a .plate ofthin sheet metal having a headed projection and an annular rib surrounding the' base of said head, a plate of thin sheet metal' having a slotadapted to receive thehead, said slot having a reduced portion adapted to receive the neck of said headed projection and to engage theunderside ofthe head, the slotted plate havingfdetents adapted receive the to engage said annular rib to yretain the lheaded Vprojection in locking engagement.
