TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, GEORGE B. SCRIBNER, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Implement for Lifting the Lids and other Furniture of Stoves, Plates, Dishes, &c., and which also serves the purpose of driving and drawing nails; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.

My invention relates to the providing, in a single convenient implement, the means of lifting the lids, kettles, &c., of stoves, hot plates, and other dishes, and driving and drawing nails; and consists in combining and arranging several well-known devices, heretofore used for the several purposes named, in one implement, in a form to make them efficient and more convenient than heretofore.

The drawing is a perspective'view of the implement.

The part lettered A is'for lifting the lids of stoves,'and the two parts A B serve as a means of lifting plates or other dishes when too .hot to handle with the hands. The cheeks at the back part of the opening between the jaws A and I and against which the edge of the plate or dish rests, are widened by projections O, which are formed in a manner to rest at their outer edges against the rim or edge of the plate or dish, so as to hold it from turning in thejaws. C is a book by which to lift vessels with bails, and is at the same time formed into a claw for drawing nails, tacks, Ste. D is a head for driving nails, and also serves as a rest for the edge of the stove-lid when lifted by the part A, E is a socket to receive the wooden handle F, which may be secured by a pin, as shown.

The utility of this implement; is: attributable to the peculiar form-in which the several parts are arranged and combined, each part being so situated as to serve the purposes for which it is intended, in as convenient a manner as if each were an implement for a single purpose.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the several parts A, B, C, D, E, arranged and formed substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
