WILLIAM A. PLOOK, OF BURLINGTON, IowA.
CLOTHES-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters IPatent No. 663,580, dated December 11, 1900.
Application filed April 5, 1900.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. PLOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes-hangers; and its primary object is to provide a simple and durable device which is cheap of manufacture, may be readily clamped to the garment, can be reversed in the event of warping, and is eifective in use.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which Figure l is an elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the clamping-bar unlocked, and Fig. 4 is a view of a modified form.
Referring to the said figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a cross-strip formed of suitable wood and provided near one end with a metallic ring 2, loosely mounted therein, and upon which is mounted a locking-bar 3, formed, preferably, of wood and beveled at its ends, which ends are adapted to project into loops 4, formed at the ends of a springmetal supporting-strip 5. This strip is preferably formed of wire, having a loop 6 or a hook formed at the center, and its end loops at are preferably square and normally encircle the ends ofthe cross-strip 1, inward movement thereof being prevented by pins or staples 7, extending from the lower edge of the strip 1.
In operation the ends of the support 5 are sprung apart, thereby releasing the ends of the locking-bar 3, which will swing downward upon the ring 2 as a pivot. The garment is then placed against the face of strip 1 and Serial No. 11,635. (No model.)
the locking-bar laid thereover. The loops 4 of the spring 5 will spring over the ends of the bar and hold the same in position, and the same will be pressed firmly against the garment by reason of the beveled ends which are presented to the inwardly-bearing loops t.
- When the strip 1 or bar 3 becomes warped, the bar 3 can be unlocked and swung to the opposite side of the strip 1 upon its ring with out detaching the same.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of device wherein the cross-strip 1 is elongated and curved downward, as at 8, to form a combination coat and trousers hanger.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a clothes hanger the combination, with a cross-strip, of a ring therein, a lockingbar pivoted, and slidable, upon said ring, a spring supporting-strip, loops at the ends thereof inclosing the cross-strip and lockingbar, and means for limiting the inward movement of the loops.
2. In a clothes-hanger the combination, with a cross-strip, of a ring therein, a lockingbar having beveled ends pivoted, and slidable, upon said ring, a spring supportingstrip, loops at the ends thereof inclosing the cross-strip and locking-bar, and means for limiting the inward movement of the loops.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. PLOCK.
