Be it known that I, WTLLIAM H. C. JEW- ELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 69 Wilson avenue, Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improved burglar-alarm; and it consists in the certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved burglaralarm, showing the same in position upon the floor opposite a door, the said alarm being constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a portion of the jamb of a door, showing the manner in which my improved alarm maybe connected thereto. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the same.

To construct an alarm for use upon doors or windows in accordance with my invention, I provide a bell l, having an interiorly-arranged mechanism for operating a tapper upon the pressing of a button 2, the said bell and its mechanism being now in general use upon bicycles, and therefore a detailed description is not deemed necessary. This bell 1 is attached by means of a bolt to a bar 3, one end of which is bent downwardly at an angle and formed with a series of barbs 4 to engage with the floor and the other end formed with two sets of recesses 5, adapted to connect with a staple 7, arranged in a recess 8, formed in the jamb 9 of the door.

In operation the device is placed upon the iioor in front of the door 6, as shown at Fig. l of the drawings, and upon the opening of the said door the same is brought in contact with the button 2, moving the same inward, thereby releasing the mechanism to vibrate the tapper and sound an alarm.

rlhis same device may be used in connection with the jamb of the door by arranging at a suitable point a staple 7, which will engage with the notches 5, formed in the bar 3, as shown at Fig. 3 of the drawings.

Slight modifications or changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
