THEODORE H. WHITE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
GAME APFSARATUS.
SPECIFIATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 661,781. dated November 13, 1900.
Application iiled April 19, 1900. SerialNo.'13,4=80. (No mcdcl To all whom it may concern.A
Be it known that I, THEoDoRE H. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved game apparatus. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of one form of indicator employed. Fig. 4 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 5 is a detail plan view of another form of indicator.
The game apparatus com prises a preferably rectangular cabinet or boX o of suitable length, breadth, and depth. The top b of the.
cabinet is provided with a plurality of slots c ol e, preferably three in number and of segmental form. One slot c extends along one longer side of the top b, and the other two slots d and c are shorter than the slot c and extend along the two adjacent sides of the top l) in a general direction at right angles to the slot c. Along one side of the longer slot c are arranged in order all the letters of the alphabet, (designated by reference-letter f.) At one end of the slot c, as at g, is the word Yes, and at the other end g' of the said slot is the word No Above and close to the alphabetf, and preferably at about the middle of the slot c, are arranged the words Dont know. Along one side of the slot d are arranged the numerals from l to 12, designated by reference-letter h, and at one end of said slot are the Words Good night,
while at the Opposite end t" are the Words Good eve. The words Blonde, Short, Slender, Medium, Stout, Talk Brunette, are designated by the referenceletter ,j and are arranged in the order named along one side of the other slot e. On the top b in the space between the three segmental slots c, d, and e are three concentric circles 7c, Z., and m. Around the outer circle lo are arranged the names of the days of the Week and numerals from l to 3l for the days ofthe month. VAround the middle circle Z are arranged the abbreviations-for the twelve calendar months, and around the innermost circle lm are arranged the letters of the alphabet. On the center space n, within the innermost circle m, are the words Yes, No and Dont know.
In order that questions may be answered by reference to the letters, words, and numerals arranged along one side of the segmental slots c, d, and e, I have provided indicators o, which are guided in their movement by said slots. Each indicator has a finger-piece p with pointed end p', adapted to move over the upper surface of the top b and register or coincide with said letters, words, or numerals, as may be. Rigidly secured to the pointed ends of the fingerpieces p and depending therefrom are guide-pins q, which take down through the slot and guide the finger-pieces, and on the lower end each guide-pin q has within the interior of the cabinet a a retaining-button r, which contines the finger-piece to its respective slot. The opposing faces of both the finger-piecep and the retaining-but tour are provided with some suitable means for reducing friction and preventing noise. As illustrated, this means comprises pieces of woolen cloth or felt s.
In order to answer questions by reference to the letters, words, and numerals arranged around the three concentric circles k, Z, and on, I have provided, as shown in Figs. l and 5, an elongated two-pointed indicator t, which is free to be moved over the surface of the top b. It is provided with two points t', so that several answers may be indicated by it at the same time or so thatueither point may be used to indicate an answer Without twisting the hand into any inconvenient or uncomfortable position.
In the practical manipulation 0f the apparatus it may be placed upon a table or stand or upon the lap, as preferred, and the fingertips of the operator or operators are lightly placed upon the indicators o or t. Questions IOO are then proposed, and the indicators will be interior of the cabinet and secured to the moved and spell out or otherwlse indicate the answers.
While I have shown the slots c, CZ, and e segmental in form, it is obvious that they may be straight.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A game apparatus, comprising a boX or cabinet whose top is provided with slots eX- tending along its sides and characters such as letters, words and numerals arranged along one side of each slot; and an indicator in each slot and each provided with a fingerpiece formed with a pointed end, and adapted to slide over the surface of said top and a guide-pin secured to and depending from the pointed end of the finger-piece andV moving i in said slot, and a retaining-button on the lower end ot said guide-p1n, the opposing faces of the finger-piece and retaining-button being provided with means to reduce friction and prevent noise.
2. A game apparatus comprising a box or cabinet Whose top is provided along each of three sides with a slot, and also having characters arranged along said slots and other characters in the space between the three slots; slidable indicators confined to and guided by said slots; and an indicator for the characters in the space between said slots, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature lin the presence of two witnesses.
