forming part of Letters Patent No. 668,000, dated February 12, 1901.
Application filed March 7, 1900. ielil N0. 7,670. KNO model.)
.To all whom zit may concern,.-
Be it known that l, CHARLES A. Wannen, a citizen of the United fltates of America, residing at Carrollton, in the county of Greene and State of illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Ijiow-loints, of which the following is aspecilication.
My invention relates to an improvement in detachable plowpointsg and the object is to provide a plow-point which will lit any ordinary plow and is so constructed as to prevent vertical or lateral play.
llith this object in view my improved plow-point consists in means for engaging the plow upon two of its edges at an angle to each other in such a manner as to absolutely prevent vertical or side play thereon.
My invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and combina tion of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a bottom view in perspective, showing the point constructed and adapted to apply directly to the plow. Fig. 2 is a top view of a plowshare constructed to receive my improved plow-point. 3 represents a side and partial top view of my improved point, and Fig. e shows a plowshare with my improved point adapted to give a general idea of how the point used.
il represents my improved plow-point. It is provided with a 'flat plate portion d, adapted to rest dat upon the plowshare d. (Shown in Fig. 2.) rlhe point Ais provided with the offset portion Ct, adapted to conform to and 'fit the forward edge fof the plowshare. This offsetportion c.' is provided with a if-shaped projection o, and the latter is adapted to enter a corresponding` lil-shaped, notchfin the plowshare, the object of which arrangement is to absolutely prevent lateral play of the point with respect io the plowshare. The plow point is likewise provided with a heel c, which has a triangular opening K formed therein, and this triangular opening is constructed and adapted to receive the forward end m of the landside M of the plowshare, shaped and cut to fit this opening,as shown in Fig. d. The object of this arrangement is to prevent upand-down or vertical play of the point with respect to the other portions of the plow. A
single hole i) is formed in the fiat portion d of the plow-point, and a corresponding hole g in the plowshare receives a bolt 7L, which secures the plow-point in position. These three fastening means-namely,the projection ain the notch f, the recess K,receiving the projection m, and the bolt L-oonstitu te an effectual fastening for the plow-point, at the same time requiring a minimum of time and trouble in the application and adjustment or removal of the point from the plow. By means of the several fastenings thc point is held in a perfectly rigid and iiXed position with relation to the moldboard N and landside M, from which it cannot move except as the bolt hitself is loosened and taken from the holes b and g. In this manner a simple, inexpensive, and most effectual plow-point is provided.
It is evident that slight changes might be resorted io in the form and arrangement of the several parts described Without departing` from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence Ido not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth; but,
Having fully described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A plow-point having a dat portion with an offset thereon, said offset having a rearward projection adapted to enter the forward edge of the plowshare of the plow to prevent lateral play or movement with respect thereto, said plow-point also provided with an opening adapted to receive a corresponding pro jection on the landside of the plow whereby to prevent vertical play of the plow-point.
2. rlhe combination with a plowshare having a notch in its forward edge and a land side having a projection in its forward edge, of a plow-point having a flat portion, an offset, a projection adapted to enter the notch in the forward edge of the plowshare and provided with an opening adapted to receive and [it the projection on the forward edge of the landside, said plo7 share and point having a hole therein and a bolt adapted to pass through said holes thereby to secure the plow-point in position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES A. WEIMER.
In presence of* WILLIAM LAvERv, li. E. CUNNINGHAM.
