Description
UNITED STATES -PATENT FFICE.
HARRY THAYER KINGSBURY, OF KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,530, dated January 22, 1901.
Application filed June 14, 1900. Serial No. 20,280. (No model.)
To all whom t magazin/cern:
Be it known that I, HARRY TRAYER KINGS- BURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Keene, in the county of Cheshire, State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in toys, and particularly to a toy two-wheeled cart.
The object is to provide a strong and simple toy embodying certain novel elements in its construction; and the invention consists of a toy constructed as hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims, and also in the blank from which the body portion is struck up.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of atoy donkey-cart embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View illustrating the manner of securing the shafts, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the cart is struck up.
In the drawings, and referring first to Fig. 3, A represents as a whole the body-blank, having the central portion provided with the elongated openings t', the forwardly-projecting part B, which when bent up forms the front of the cart, the lugs cl when the sides C are bent up engaging the holes g in the part B. The openings b are for the reception of the tail-bar D of the cart.
E represents the shafts, of Wire or other suitable spring material, provided on their inner ends with U-shaped loopsF. The ends of the shafts are passed through the small openings h back to the slots i and are dropped therethrough down around the axle G and up again, the axle thus being embraced by said loops and prevents the shafts from pulling out.
The body is made of one piece of pressed steel bent along the dotted lines shown on Fig. 3, and the sides are embossed to stiften them and give them a heavier appearance. By this construction a very simple and yet strong and durable toy is produced.
Having thus described myinvention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A toy cart, or the like, struck up out of one piece of sheet metal having the body portion, the sides bent up therefrom, the upwardly-bent front portion, and cooperating lugs, shafts passing through openings in the front portion and body portion, and having loops embracing the axle, and passing through openings in the body portion; substantially as described.
2. The herein-described blank for bodies of toy carts, composed of a single sheet of pressed steel, having the projecting part B, the sides C, the lugs d, and openings g and i; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY TI-IAYER KINGSBURY.
