UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
ISAAC D. LAW, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JOHN G. R. MOGORKELL, OF SAME PLACE.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 381,391, dated April 17, 1888.
' Application filed June 23, 1887. Serial No. 242,239. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC D. LAW, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county ofPhiladelphia, State ofPennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in a toy formed of a single piece of material of the form of asleigh with the figure or figures of an animal attached thereto, and provided with a seat the sides of which are secured to sides of the body of the sleigh, as herein described and claimed.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of the toy in its primary condition. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the toy. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section thereof in line :0 m, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate. corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a toy formed of a sleigh and the figures of animals represented in the act of drawing the sleigh.
In forming the toy I take a sheet or piece, B, of suitable material, preferably tin, and cut the same so as to form the floor O of the body of the sleigh, the sides and ends D, the
from the floor O and secured, thus producing the body of the sleigh, which may be painted, ornamented, or otherwise finished, as desired.
H represents the seats of the sleigh, each being bent into the shape of a seat and back, with side pieces, J, integral therewith, which pieces are passed through the openings at the lower corners of the body of the sleigh, and are fitted to the sides D of the body of the sleigh and soldered thereto, thus securing the seat and strengthening the sides of the body.
If desired, the toy may be mounted on wheels, the bearings for the axles thereof being pieces integral with the bottom of the sleigh or figures, or both.
I am aware that it is not new to construct a toy having sides integral with a top or bottom, the said parts being cut from a single blank and then bent into the desired position; but I am not aware that the particular construction herein shown and claimed, wherein a single blank is so cut that the bottom, sides, and ends of a sleigh or other vehicle with runners and a double figure of an animal in connection therewith is so cut from a single piece that the bending of the side and end pieces into the proper position forms openings at the lower corners of the sides which permit the side pieces, J, of the seat to pass through, and thereby be connected with the outer side of the body portion of the vehicle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A toy consisting ofa sleigh with the double figure of an animal integral therewith, said double figure being united at top and the sides and end pieces of the body of the sleigh having openings at thelower corners thereof, and.
a seat having end pieces, J, passing through said openings and secured to the sides, substantially as described.
