Be it known that I, JOHN DAVID BROWNE, of the city of Cincinnati, county of' Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of Looms for Weaving, 4the nature of which consists in the mode of transmitting the motion direct to operate the hatten and the shaft by which the treadles are operated; and I do hereby l.declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making partof this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement.

A represents the frame of a loom.` B is the batten. C is the shaft, by the motion of which the treadles are made to operate.' D is a rod or bar, annexed to thc crank a on the driving-crank handle E, and with the crank b on the iy-Whcel F, which is fined on the shaft O, the centre of the rod D haring a pin, c, which moves back and forth in the guide-plate G fixed to the frame A. d is a plate, attached ,to the hatten B, having a notch or slot fitting on the ,centre-pin c of the rod D.

Operation: By turning the crank-handle E a rotary motion is imparted to shaft O by the rod D and the cranks a b, and a reciprocating motion is likewise given to the hatten B from the centrc-pili c and plat-c cl, thus both motions heing direct from the same 1od.'

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The cranks a b and the rod or bar D, having a centre-pinne, and the guide-plato G, in combination with the shaft C, substantially as herein described.
