Description

@with tstr'tttrnt @Hita IMPROVED Bee- Baum @he tlgehirle numb in in tlgrsr trtor ntmt mit milking pmt nfilgt time.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WICKERSHAM, of Boston, in the county of Suifolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful improvement on the Egg-Berater, and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows a side elevation exhibiting the segment gear crank connection-rod, Ste.
A Figure 2 shows a side sectional view of the same; and
Figure 3 shows a cross-section of the attened knives or beaters.
a is a frame, Vto which the different parts of the machine are attached; b is a segment gear; c c, &c, are the beating-knives; cl is the crank; e is a connection-rod, connecting the crank with the segment gear in such manner as to give to said gear an oscillating motion when the .crank 'is turned; f is the handle; g is a small shaft, to which the pinion L and the beaters c c are attached. l
My egg-beater operates as follows: The operator takes hold of. the crank-handle f and turns the crank round continuously, and by means of the connection-rod e attached to the outer end of the crank at f and to the segment gear at the point e, a vibratory motion is given to the segment gear Zi; and as the teeth of this segment gear work in the teeth of the pinion h, which is fastened on to the saine shaft withthe beaters c c, 82e., said beaters are made to turn round one way when the segment gear vibrates one way, and the beaters will move theother way when said segment vibrates in the other direction, and continuously the reverse vibration of the segment reverses the motion ofthe beaters.
My invention consists in the device foi-imparting a vibratory motion to the segment gear b, that is, the crank d and the connection-rod e, connected and arranged as described.
I do not claim the alternate forwardand backward movement of the beating-knives, as I am aware that such motion has been given them before, but what I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-4 'lhe device in eggbeaters of giving the segment gear (and, consequently, the beater-knives cccc,) a vibratory motion by means of acrank and connection-rodA formed and arranged as described.
W. WICKERSHAM.
