CLOTH ES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent N0. 655,002, dated July 31, 1900. Application led September 16, 1899- Serial No. 730,676. (No model.)
My invention relates to that class of clothesdriers which are provided with bars or rods pivotally connected to a base or center piece to extend radially at differentY angles therefrom; and the object of my present invention is to provide a strong, simple', and eficient clothes-drier of the class which can be detachably hung upon a door-casing, windowcasing, or similar support Without marring.
or defacing the same and which can be compactly folded into small compass when not in use.
To these ends a clothes-drier constructed according to my invention consists of thel parts and combinations of parts, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim at the end of this specification.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view taken from the rear side of a clothesdrier constructed according to my invention. A clothes-drier constructed according to my present invention comprises a base-piece,` preferably of metal, a plurality of arms pivotally mounted 011 the base-piece,and extending up from the rear side of the base-piece is a supporting-arm having an overhanging upper end provided with teeth orprojections for supporting the device from a door-casing, window-casing, or similar support. The su pporting-arm is long enough to bring the pivoted bars within easy reach of the person using the drier, and the supporting-arm is preferably hinged or jointed near its lower end, so that the same can be folded'down over the pivoted bars to allow the device to be compactly folded together when not in use.r
Referring to the drawing and in detail, 10 designates a substantially-semicircular casting which forms the base-piece of a clothesdrier constructed according to my invention. Pivotally mounted: on rivets or screws 11, extending up fromthe base-piece 10,are wooden arms or rods 12, which extend radially from said base-piece and may be swungor turned to any desired position in the ordinary manner. Extending up from the rear side of the base-piece 10, preferably from substantially the middle thereof, is a supporting-arm 13. The supporting-arm 13 is provided at its upper end with an o verhanging portion 14, having inclined teeth 15, which are sharpened, so as to seat themselves in the top of a door or Window casing or similar support from which the device is hung. The supporting-arm 13 is pivoted or hinged at 16 near its lower end, so that when the device is not in use the supporting-arm may be folded down over the wooden bars or arms 12, so that the clothesdrier may be com pactly folded and put away when not in use.
In order to prevent the clothes-drier from scratching or marring the face of the doorcasing or window-casing from which the same is supported, the base-piece l() is preferably provided with a backing-strip, of rubber or similar material, as 17, the rubber strip 17 not only serving asa cushion to prevent the clothes-drier from marring the paint of the window-casing or door-casing from which the same is hung, but also having a tendency to prevent the clothes-drier from swinging or oscillating sidewise with respect to its supporting-hook 14.
I am aware that many changes maybe made in the4 construction of my clothes-drier by those who are skilled in the art without departing from the scope of my invention as expressedin the claims. I do not Wish, there fore, to be limited to the form which I have herein shown and described; but f WhatA I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a clothes-drier, the combination of a base-piece or casting l0, a plurality of rods or bars l2 extending radially therefrom and pivotally mounted on rivets 11 secured in the base-piece 10, a supporting-arm 13 extending up from the rear side of the base-piece or casting 10, and having a hooked upper end for hanging the clothes-drier from a Windowcasing, a door-casing, or similar support without inarring the face thereof, said supportingarm being hinged or jointed as at 16 to fold down over the bars 12 when not in use, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in tlie presence of two subscribing witnesses.
