DISINFECTING DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 647,130, dated April 10, 1900. Application filed August 5, 1899. Serial No. 726,335. (No model.)

This invention relates to improvements in Vaporizers adapted especially for the production and distribution of formic aldehyde vapors for therapeutical and industrial purposes, the object thereof being to provide asimple, inexpensive, and durable apparatus of this character which is adapted for attachment to the chimney of an ordinary lamp.

The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the anne'xed claims.

In the drawing my device is illustrated by asingle view in perspective, showing the same attached to the chimney of a burning lamp.

In the practice of my invention I provide, primarily, a cup A. This cup is secured at its base to a horizontal plate B, having depending projections b, formed integrally therewith, this plate and its projections being formed of resilient metal, whereby the same is maintained in frictional engagement with the upper edge of the lamp-chimney Z.

Projected upwardly from the base of the cup A is a spindle O, which engages at its upper end a revoluble wheel D, which comprises a plurality of blades (Z, which are arranged at an angle in such a manner as to allow of the wheel revolving by the action of hot air.

In the operation and use of the device it is set in place in the manner illustrated by the drawing upon the upper edge of the chimney of a lighted lamp. Then to obtain formic aldehyde, trioxymethylene powder is placed within the cup A, and the dry distillation of the triozymethylene produces formic aldehyde, and the vapors arising therefrom, together with the heated air from the lampchimney, cause the wheel D to automatically revolve and distribute the said vapors around the room, thus producing an efficient deodorizer and disinfectant.

I do not confine myself to the use of the device for the production of formic aldehyde vapors, as it is obvious that I may employ other substances to be vaporized, such as menthol, camphor, &c. Neither do I confine myself to the specific details of mechanical construction, as under the scope of my invention I am entitled to slight structural variations.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a vaporizer for attachment to a lampchimney, the combination of the resilient fork for frictional contact with the upper edge of the lamp-chimney, the cup secured on said fork, the vertical spindle extended upwardly from the said cup and the revoluble wheel mounted on said spindle and adapted to be moved by hot air.

2. In a vaporizer for the production and distribution of formic aldehyde vapors, the combination of the forked plate B, the cup A secured thereon, the spindle 0 extended upwardly from said cup, and the revoluble wheel D mounted on said spindle, the device adapted for attachment with a lamp-chimney, substantially as shown and described.
