NITED STATES PATENT EEicE.
CHARLES e. ETTE, oF ST. Louis, MISSOURI.
DORIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,031, dated October 3l, 1899.
Application filed April 12, 1899. Serial No. 712, '760. (No model.) A
T0 all whom, it ncry concern.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES Gr. ETTE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Vase and Odorizer; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in a combined vase and odorizer; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my complete invention with parts broken away, showing more clearly the inner construction or parts thereof; and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the base portion of the odorizer with the vase removed therefrom.
The object of my invention is to construct a combined vase and odorizer in such a manner that when a certain part thereof is agitated by rotating the same the atmosphere in a room or other place will be sufficiently impregnated with the perfumery, disinfectant, antiseptic, or other drug or liquid contained in said odorizer, the vase portion thereof being adapted to receive and hold either natural or artiicial flowers, the base portion of the odorizer, together with its base, being of any desirable design, whereby the same will form a portable and desirable fixture for a room or other place.
Referring to the drawings, l represents a casing which forms a base for the odorizer and vase, the outer surface of which may be of any suitable design and shape, and located within said casing is secured a suitable motor 2, which in the present instance is shown as a clock-movement adapted to be wound up in the usual manner and provided with a vertically-operated shaft`3, the upper end of which projects a suitable distance above the clock mechanism, to which a body is secured and rotated thereby; but it is evident that an electric motor may be employed and caused to be operated by a current of electricity without departing from the nature of my invention.
The rotating body is located above the motor and within the upper chamber 4 of the casing l, which forms the base of the odorizer, and is composed of two arms 5, having upwardly-projecting pins G, which are forced throu gh the absorbent material 7, (preferably sponges,) whereby the latter are securely held in position and easily removed when desired. Also forming a part of the body are two fan-blades 8, which are located between the Sponges or absorbent material and operate to force the air upwardly through the top of the casing, which is simultaneously impregnated with the perfumery or other drug contained in the absorbent material. By constructing a rotating body as above described the absorbent material is not only rotated, but the fans have their proper function to force the air upwardly, whereby better results are obtained and the perfumery more thoroughly scattered or distributed about the room.
A very essential and important feature of my invention is the employment of a vase or receptacle 9, which is provided with a skeleton base 10, which is removably held in position on the top of the casing l, said vase being adapted to receive natural or artificial flowers, but preferably the latter, whereby a novel and desirable combination is obtained.
As stated, I preferably use or employ artificial flowers, as they are lasting, and when used in connection with the odorizer herein constructed are as desirable as natural flowers, for the reason that should artificial violets, for instance, be placed in the vase the absorbent material could be saturated-with violet perfumery, and when the device is set in motion or the body revolved the perfumery will be forced upwardly about and through the flowers, and consequently give not only the appearance of natural flowers, but a similar scent or odor to the room or other place. The vase 9 is therefore preferably located on the top of the casing I of the odorizer or above the rotating body and centrally arranged, whereby the perfumery will be properly distributed around the vase and through the iiowers that may be located therein, the said perfumery passing through the skeleton base 10, which preferably forms a part of the vase.
I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein shown and described, as the same may be varied in many respects without depart-ing from the nature of my invention, the principal object being in the employment of a vase or other receptacle for containing flowers, a revolving body located below the same and adapted to contain perfumery or other drug, and means for rotating said body and likewise the perfumery or drug carried thereby; also, the construction of the body, which is composed of absorbent material, and fans also forming a part of the body, but out of contact with the absorbent material, the latter, together with the fans, being rotated simultaneously.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- 1. An odorizer, comprisinga suitable motor, a rotating shaft forming a part of the same, a body secured to said shaft, arms forming a part of said body and carrying absorbent material, and fan-blades also forming a part of the body and located between the arms, as and for the purpose described.
2. In an odorizer, comprising a base, a suitable motor, a rotating shaft forming a part of the same, a body secured to said shaft, arms forming a part of said body and carrylng,r absorbent material, and fan-blades also form-,
ing apart of the body and located between the arms, all mounted in the base; in combination with a Vase above the base and adapted to contain natural or artificial iiowers.
3. An odorizer, comprising a suitable motor, a rotating shaft, forming a part of the same, a body secured to said shaft, arms forming a part of said body, pins carried by said arms, absorbent material removably secured to the arms by said pins, and fan-blades also forming a part of the body, and located between the arms, and out of contact with the absorbent material, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES G. ET'IE.
