UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. 1
DAVID v. T. HUBBARD, or MARI-ETTA, GEORGIA.
"PLow ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,086, dated October 3, 1899.
Application filed February 27,1899- I Serial No. 707,036- (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern.-
' Be it known that I, DAVID V. T. HUBBARD, acitizen of the United States, residing at Marietta, in the county of Cobb and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Plow Attachment, of which the following is a specimy invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section on the line a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section on the line y y, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the attaching-plate.
Corresponding parts are designated by like reference characters in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates an ordinary plow-beam having the usual handles 2, which are preferably letinto grooves or notches 3, formed in the opposite side faces of the beam near the rear end thereof, as indicated in Fig. 3.
The attaching-plate at, as shown in Fig. 5, comprises a flat plate, preferably triangular in shape, having a pair of rearward ly-extending divergent arms 5. Each arm is provided at its extremity with a pendent flat leg 6,
which is inclined inwardly and forwardly. The opposite lower edges of each leg are provided with inwardly-extending ears/7. At the forward pointed end of the flat plate 4 a pendent pointed stud or finger 8 is provided. This attaching-plate, as described, is formed from a single castingto provide a convenient and durable device.
The flat plate is placed upon the top of the beam with the pendent legs 6 extendingalongside of the lowerends of the respective handles 2. The stud 8 is driven into the top of i the beam, and a b01119 is passed downward through the plate and the beam. The ears of the legs are adapted to embrace the lower side edges of the handles and are driven into the respective grooves 3, as best illustrated in Fig. 3. These legs are further held inplace by means of bolts 10, passing transversely through the beam and through each leg, as shown in Fig. 4. Thus the plate is firmly secured to the top face of the beam, and the legs 6 embrace the ends of the handles, and the bolts 10 connect the same together in a suitable manner. The handles are braced both laterally and longitudinally, and by reason of the ears embracing the lower ends of the handles the latter are prevented from splitting. The attachin g-plate being in a single piece is easily placed in position, and there are no separate pieces to become loose or lost, and very little weight is added to the plow. As the plate fits flat upon the beam immediately in front of the handles, it does not hr terfere with the usual operation of the plow The device is to be made in several dider ent sizes and is applicable to all plow and similar handles without altering or changing theconstruction or arrangement thereof.
Ghangesin the form, proportion, size, and the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A device for attaching and bracing plow and like handles, comprising a fiat plate having pendent legs, the plate being adapted to be fitted to the plow-beam, and the legs to embrace the lower ends of the handles, substahtially as shown and described. 7
2. A device for attaching and bracing plow and like handles, comprising a flat plate having divergent arms, and legs pendent from the arms, means for fasteningthe plate to the upper face of the plow-beam, and a fastening passing transversely through the pendent legs, the lower ends of the handles, and the plow-beam, substantially as scribed. v
3. A device for attaching and bracing plow and like handles, comprising a flat plate havshown and deing divergent arms, legs pendent from the arms, and flanges provided upon the legs, the plate being adapted to be fitted to the upper face of the plow-beam, the legs and flanges embracing thelower ends of the plow-handles, substantially as shown and described.
4. A device for attaching and bracing plow and like handles, comprising a fiat plate having divergent arms, and pendent legs, which are inclined inwardly and forwardly, the plate being adapted to be fitted to the upper face of the plow-beam, and the legs to embrace the lower ends of. the handles, and fastening means passing transversely through the legs, the handles and the plow-beam, substantially as shown and described.
