FRED S. JEVVETT, OF LACONIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 617,164, dated January 3, 1899. Application filed August 23, 1898. $erial No. 689,274. [No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED S. JEWETT, of Laconia, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Bracket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a bracket designed especially for application to window-frames, so that a shelf may be removably held in the window-frame and adjusted from one position to another without interfering with the movement of the sashes.
This specification is the disclosure of one form of my invention, while the claims define the actual scope of the invention.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the bracket in two positions on the windowframe, and Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of one of the right-hand brackets.
The bracket may be constructed of sheet metal pressed into form, or it may be constructed of any other materiah if desired. It comprises a body-plate a, having'a tapered upper portion provided with a slot 12, the lower end I) of which is enlarged for the reception of the head of a screw. while the upper or contracted portion of the slot is adapted to receive the shank of the screw. The upper extremity of the reduced portion of the bodyplate a is provided with a notch 0, also adapted to receive the shank of a screw. The
widened lower or main portion of the bodyplate a is provided with two parallel horizontally extending flanges, respectively designated d and e. The lower flange 6 has an extension e' projected outwardly beyond the alongside of the front of the window-frame,- as illustrated in Fig. 1.
For each shelf two of these brackets are provided. The brackets may be secured at any elevation along the window-frame so as to hold the shelf in the desired position. When the brackets are located at points above the bottom of the Window-frame, they are held each by a screw 1', (see Fig. 1,) which screws are passed first through the enlarged lower ends b of the slots 11, and then the brackets are moved downward, so that the shanks of the screws will be received in the contracted upper portions of the slots. Should the brackets be secured at the bottom of the frame in such a position as will cause the ribs 9 to bear on the bottom rail of the window-frame,.the brackets are held by screws '5, which are fastened into the sides of the frame and received in the slots or notchescof the upper portions of the body-plates a.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bracket for window-frames, having a body-plate the upper portion of which is pro= vided with a vertically-extending slot having an enlarged lower end, and the upper portion of which is also provided with a notch ex tending to the upper edge of the body-plate, horizontal flanges secured to the lower portion of the body-plate and adapted to receive between them a shelf, and a transverse lip attached to the outer edge of the body-plate and adapted to engage with the front of the window-frame.
2. A bracket for window-frames, having a body-plate, two parallel flanges secured to the bodyplate, the lower of said flanges having an outward extension and the flanges serving to receive a shelf between them, and a transverse lip secured to the front edge of the body-plate and adapted to lie along the front face of the window-frame.
