Be it known that I, H. C. JONES, of Dowagiac, in the county of Cass, and State of Michigan, haveinvented` a new and improved Stave Basket; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and; exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsmaking a` part ofthis specification, in which-l- Figure 1 is a horizontal section through 4myimproved basket. Figure 3 is a side view. i Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the: several figures'. i i This invention relates to an improvement on that class of baskets which are made of s taves, or thin and 1 narrow strips of wood, which are put together upon a former, and secured by means of hoops. The nature` of my invention consists in supportingand strengthening such baskets at an intermediate point between the i i top and bottom by means of an inside and an' outside hoopor band, which aresecured by'pins' passing through them, the outside band serving also as a means for receiving and keeping in place the lower ends of `the how handles, as will be hereinafter described,` i i i i i To en'able others skilled in the,` art to understand my invention, I will describe its construction and operation. i In the accompanying drawings I have represented a basket, which is made of staves laid together soi esito,l overlap each other, and secured in place by means of hoops and bands. These hoops are placed, one inside and the other outside of the basket, and secured in place 'by nails, i as shown in fig. 2.
