SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,557, dated March 15, 1898.

Be it known that I, BERT J. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States,residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Fountain-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the improvement of fountain-brushes of that class which are adapted for use in washing windows, walls, floor-surfaces, &c.; and the objects of my invention are to provide an improved brush or washing device of this character of superior construction and arrangement of parts, to provide improved means for filling the reservoir, to provide improved means for supporting the brush and discharging water thereon, and to produce other improvements in the details of construction, which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved washing device with the brush removed therefrom. of the same, showing the brush in place. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the body of the washing device, and Fig. 4 is a detail view in perspective, illustrating the water outlet and controlling valve.

I11 the construction of my improved fountain-brush or washing device I employ a reservoir or case, preferably of the partial cylindrical form indicated at a. With each end of the reservoir (L I form a downwardly-extending substantially semicircular arm I), the latter being provided at regular intervals with suitable pin-holes Z). With the forward side of the reservoir CL and adjacent to the lower side thereof I form said reservoir with a forwardlyprojecting bead or semicylindrical roll 0, the latter being provided at regnlar intervals with perforations c. Extending between the forward portions of the downwardly-extending arms or segments 1) and arranged one above the other are rods cl, while a similar rod (1 extends between short forward extensions d of said arms I).

The yoke-arms 7a, which are thus made to pass on the outer sides of the reservoir or casing arms 1), are each provided with a spring actuated catch pin g, which pins are adapted to be made to engage with the desired ones of the openings b.

The brush is detaohably held in the position described by means of set-screws 0, which pass through the arms b of the casing a and are adapted to be turned firmly against the ends of the brush-back.

Within the roll projection c of the external casing I journal a shaft-valve g, which is provided at regular intervals with perforations or openings g, which correspond with the openings 0. It will be observed that my improved fountain-brush construction is simple and that the devi'ce-may be produced in a reliable and convenient form.
