Be it known that I, FRANKTRIMBLE, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Mop-Vringing Attachment for Pails, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is tovprovide a device readily attachable to any pail and through the medium of which a mop may be wrung in a convenient and expeditious manner without necessitating the hands of the operator coming in contact With the contentsV of the pail and whereby the mop `may be readily placed in position to be wrung or removed from the pail, as desired.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.`

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicatecorresponding parts in all the ligures.

A The attachment in its entirety is designated as A and is constructed practically in two partsa fixed section a and a movable section c. Each section is semicircular, the two sections when brought together being of circular shape. The fixed section a comprises` flat and from whicharms 11 are carried, the, arms 11 being of such length that they may. extend beyond or over the upper edge of the plied. Each arm 11 is providedat its outer end with a clamp B. These clamps, as shown in the drawings, ,preferably consist of a top plate 12 and opposing yjaws 13, which extend, downwardly from the top plate, being adapted to engage with the inner and the outer faces of the staves of the pail to which the attach-. ment is `to be applied. The clamps are secured upon the arms 11 by means of bindingrasant No. 605,362, dated June 7, 189e.

screws 14, and usually set-screws 15 are passed through the outer jaws 13 to an engagement with the outer surface of the pail, as shown in Fig. 2; but, as above stated, the two jaws 13` of the various clamps may be .brought into actual engagement with the in- `nerand the outer faces of the staves of the pail. The set-screws 15 are employed in order that the attachment may be made to pails having either thick or Vthin staves.

The bodyportion 10 of the member a of the attachment is provided with inwardly-extending arms 161?, which arms carry or support awire16 or its equivalent, upon which wire 16 rollers 1G are mounted to turn, sundry of the said rollers being located in the arms 11, as shown in Fig. 1. The section a' of the attachment consists also, preferably, of a segmental body-plate 17, from which inwardly-extending brackets 17 are projected, the said brackets carrying a wire 17b or its equivalent, upon which rollers 1S are mounted to turn. When the two sections of the attachment are brought together, a circular opening is formed between the rollers 1G and.

18, through which opening the mop being used is to be drawn for the purpose of pressing the water from it. The section a is pivotally attached to the arm 11 of the fixed section a, and at one end of the: section a a handle 19 is secured, an arm`11"of the opposing sectiona being usually located at the end of the section against which the section a is adapted to contact. The pivot-pin connecting the two sections is designated as 2O and is clearly shown in Fig. 1. Rollers 18-are also mounted in the inner end of the handle L19. and in a bracket at the end of the section Vafnext the arm 11 in which the pivot 20 is located.

At the free end of the body portion of the pivoted member a', in that portion of said memberwhich extends beyond the handle 19, a recess 21 is made, the recess being in the outer edge of the said body portion 17, as shown in dotted lines'in Figs.r 2 and 3. The

through the medium of a lever 23, which is pivoted on the supporting-arm 1l of the section a near the end where the pivoted section a abuts, the said lever 23 being provided with a downwardly extending finger or lug 24, which enters the recesses 21 and 22 of the two sections when the body portions of these two sections in which the recesses are made are carried one over the other, as shown in Fig. 2.

In the operation of the attachment when a mop is to be used the pivoted section a is unlocked from the xed section a. The mop is then placed in the bucket or pail, the head ofthe mop being within the space bounded by the rollers of the two sections of the attachment. rlhe sections of the attachment are then locked together and the mop is drawn out from the pail through the central opening of the attachment in contact with the rollers 1G and 18, whereupon the liquid absorbed by the mop will be pressed out; but if it is desired to release the mop quickly at any time the pivoted section is unlocked from the ixed section ot'- the attachment, and the mop may then be readily withdrawn from the pail-as, for example, when the mop is no longer required forvcleaning purposes but at all times when the mop is placed in the pail it is neces- 7 sary that the pivoted section of the attachment should be separated or carried away from the fixed section.

In order that the pail may be held in a fixed position while the mop is being drawn through the wringing attachment for the pail, feet 25 areattached to said pail, extending horizontally therefrom at the bottom, upon which feet of the pail the feet of the operator may rest while the mop is being manipulated in the pail, thus holding said pail firmly on the support upon which it rests-as,for example,upon the tloor.

A mop -wringiug attachment for pails, comprising a section arranged for attachment to a pail, and a pivotal section, both sections being provided with rollers at their inner edges, and means for locking` the two sections together, for the purpose specified.

2. A mop-wringing attachment for pails and like receptacles, consisting of pivotallyconnected semicircular sections, a locking device for the two sections, rollers located at the inner edges `of the sections, and arms projected from one of the sections, provided with clamps, for the purpose specied.

3. A mop-wringing attachment for pails and like vessels, consisting of two segmental pivotally-connected sections, both sections being provided at their inner edges with rollers, one section having arms projected therefrom and clamps attached to the said arms, the other section being provided with a handle whereby it may be readily opened from the opposing section, for the purpose specified.
