Description
UNITED STATES PATENT EEicE,
ALEXANDER GARTSHORE, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 597,280, dated January 11, 1898.
Application filed December 17, 1896. Renewed October 9, 1897. $erial No. 654,706. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER GART- SHORE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles, and has for its object to provide novel and efiective means whereby the bottle is prevented from being refilled after the original contents have been removed, and thereby preventing counterfeiting of various liquids by unscrupulous persons by substituting a spurious article for the genuine after the bottle has been emptied of the original contents and selling the same under the seal and shape of bottle of the manufacturer of the original contents.
The invention further aims to construct a bottle or provide means Within-the neck of the same to accomplish the above result that will be extremely simple in its construction, strong durable, effectual in its purpose, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture; furthermore, that will permit the liquid to flow out of the bottle readily, but will absolutely prevent any liquid being introduced into the bottle after the device has been placed in position.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more specifically described, aud particularly pointed out in the invention.
letters, a indicates the collar or sleeve adapted to fit in the inside of the bottle-neck b,where it is cemented or otherwise secured, said sleeve.
the same through the said base or other suitv able means.
The operation is as follows: The sleeve or collar is inserted in the bottle-neck after the bottle has been filled, and is cemented therein, and the Weighted controller sits firmly on the aperture and closes the seal of the bottle, preventing any liquid being introduced into the same. The-band It serves to hold the controller over the aperture at all times when the bottle is in the vertical position or above the horizontal line, and When the bottle is tilted the ball Will move from its seat sufiiciently to permit the liquid to flow out of the neck of the bottle, and when the bottle is again brought above the horizontal line the ball will reseat itself and prevent any liquid from being poured into the bottle.
It Will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of my Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a non-refillable bottle, the neck thereof, a sleeve secured within said neck, said sleeve having an interior annular flange, forming a base, provided with a centrallyarranged aperture, a controlling-ball resting on said base, said ball carrying an eyelet f, to which is attached a Weighted link depending into the bottle, and operating over a link attached to the base of the sleeve to hold the Weighted link ina vertical position, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a non-refillable bottle, a sleeve cemented in the neck of the bottle, said sleeve having an interior annular flange or base, a
