Description

No. 628,716. Patented July II, "899.
' F. W; KING:
NON-BEFILLABLE BOTTLE.
(Application filed Man, 29, 1899.)
'No Model.)
mvmran ATTOHNEK5 FRANK YVILSON KING, OF NEYV KENSINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,716, dated July 11, 1899.
Serial No. 711,031. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK WILSON KING, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Kensington, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Myinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles.
The object of my invention is to construct a non-refillable bottle which after the contents thereof have been emptied will indicate that the same has been used. I
A further object of my invention is to construct a non-refillable bottle with neck portion adapted to be broken away, so the contents of the bottle can be removed. 7
My invention finally consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views thereof, and in wl1ich- Figure l is a vertical sectional View of my improved bottle, the body portion thereof broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of a bottle, a portion of its neck broken away. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the upper stopper.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 1 indicates the body portion of a bottle, having formed integral therewith the neck portion 2. The inner face of the neck portion tapers toward the body portion, as shown, and the periphery of the neck portion is provided with a pair of annular flanges 3 4, suitably spaced apart, the neck portion between these flanges being of less thickness than the portion above and below the same, as at 4. This portion of the neck is adapted to be broken away by the use of a spanner or other implement. The top of the neck portion is provided with an annular flange 5, as shown.
6 indicates the lower stopper, which is usually formed of cork and adapted to be wedged in the neck portion, owing to the shape thereof.
The upper stopper is constructed of aplug 7, having a concentric disk 8 formed integral with the bottom thereof and a concentric disk 9 formed integral with the top thereof, the disk 9 being of greater diameter than the concentric disk 8, and is provided with a cut-away portion or notch 10 on one side thereof. The sides of these disks taper, as shown, conforming to the inner face of the neck. The upper stopper is mounted in the neck portion a suitable distance above the lower stopper, as shown, and is held in position by means of cement or wax or other desirable substance 11, which is poured or otherwise placed into the mouth of the neck and passes down and around the plug 7 and through the cut-away portion or notch 10, covering also the upper face of the disk 9. This securely holds the same in position and prevents tampering with the lower stopper.
My improved bottle is used as follows: The lower stopper 2 being wedged in the neck, the upper stopper is likewise wedged therein and held in position by means of wax, cement, or other material. WVhen it is desired to empty the bottle of its contents, the neck is broken off at 4, the lower stopper removed, and the bottle emptied. Owing to the broken condition of the neck of the bottle it will indicate that the contents thereof have been used and prevent the fraudulent use of the bottle.
It is thought that the many advantages of my improved bottle can be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a non-refillable bottle, a neck portion provided with a pair of annularflanges suitably spaced apart formed on its periphery, the neck portion between the flanges being of less thickness than the remaining portion of the neck to allow of the same to be easily broken away, a lower stopper arranged in the said neck portion the top of said stopper registering with face of the lower disk and the lower face of the upper disk for securing the upper stopper in position, the sealing means also surrounding the upper face of the upper disk, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK WILSON KING.
