Be it known that I, JOHN PEARCE HUrcH- INS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Colorado and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Tool, of which the following isa specification.

The invention consists in a tool embodying certain novel features and details of construction, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tool constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of the scraperblade detached. Y

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the handle of a wrench, the same being extended at one end to form a stationary jaw2 of suchwrench, and being provided near the base of such jaw with a slotted lateral extension 3 for the reception of the shank 4L, of a pivoted jaw 5. The main body of the pivoted jaw is located in advance of the extension 3 and is of approximately equal width with the stationary jaw, while the shank '4; passes through the slot in the extension 3.and is pivoted at its inner end between spaced parallel ears 6 on the wrench-handle.

7 designates a wedge which is inserted through the slot in the extension Soutside of the shank of the pivoted jaw. This wedge is provided with a finger-hold or lip 8,by which it may be moved longitudinally, and is also provided with spaced ears 9, which embrace the shank 4 of the pivoted jaw for holding` said wedge in proper position and from being displaced laterally. The outer edge or surface of the wedge is notched or serrated, as shown at 10, and the outer end of the slot in the extension 3 is beveled to form a single tooth 11, which will engage in the notches or serrations of the wedge'for the purpose of holding the latter at any desired adjustment. By adjusting the wedge longitudinally the distance between the wrench-jaws may `be regulated at will and the pivoted jaw may be held fast in any desired position.

The handle 1 is provided for approximately half its length and in one side with a shallow facial recess 12, bounded on each side by ribs or flanges 13, the latter being grooved on their inner adjacent faces and in alinement with the base or floor of the recess to receive the side edges of the reduced or narrowed shank 14 of a scraper-blade 15. This scraper-blade is gradually expanded in width from its shank toward its operative edge, and the latter edge is cut off on an oblique plane, thus increasing the length of the scraping edge of the blade.

This'also facilitates the removal of mud, dirt, clay, &c. from plows, moldboards, landsides, dto., as a shearing action may be obtained by the proper manipulation of the device in the hand of the operator. The shank 14 of the scraper-blade is thrust longitudinally into the recess in the handle and is prevented from lateral displacement by reason of its engaging the grooves above described, said scraperblade being prevented from longitudinal displacement by means of a screw or other suitable fastening 16, passing through its shank into the handle l. v

The fool above described will be found very luseful about plows and other agricultural machinery, embodying, as it does, a wrench, which is often required about such machines, and a scraper for removing mud, clay, dirt, dto., from the working parts of the machinery.

It will be apparent that the form and proportion of the tool may be varied without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- The herein -described tool, comprising a handle having a facial groove in one side bounded by ribs grooved in their inner sides,- and having a portion extended to form a jaw, a slotted extension at the base ofthe jaw, a movable jaw operating through the slotted extension and having pivotal connection with ears projecting from the handle, a wedge slidingly mounted upon the shank of the pivoted jaw and provided with a linger-hold, and having its outer surface notched or serrated In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aixed my si gnature in 1o the presence of two Witnesses.
