Description
- 'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILHELM A. ZIETZKE, OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
SPECIFIOATION formingj part of Letters Patent No. 589,200, dated August 31, 1897.
' Application filed. October 15, 1896. Serial No. 608,951. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM A. ZIETZKE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Boze-.
man, in the county of Gallatin and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same or My invention relates to a combination-tool, my object being to provide a tool upon the single handle of which are mounted several instruments, a further object being to arrange the various members upon the handle in the most economical way.
To this end the invention consists in the various matters hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which ill ustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a side view of the present device. Fig. 2 is a bottomplan showing the parts in their folded positions. Fig. 3 is a detail view with one of the sides of the handle cut away to show the construction of the corkscrew and its retaining'spring, and Fig. 4 is a detail showing the wrench and screw-driver in its open position.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, A represents the body portion of the present tool, said body portion being constructed in the general form of a stove-lifter and having upon it a handle a, of asbestos or similar material. The end of the body pon tion opposite the handle is sharpened to form" a lid-lifter 1 for a stove, and the end of said lid-lifter is notched, as at 2, to produce a tackpuller. Upon the top of the body portion, at a suitable point, is provided a-hammer-face 3.
The under side of the body portion is provided with a recess 4, within which is seated at corkscrew 5. The corkscrew is formed of a single piece of wire, said wire at the end of the corkscrew opposite its point being bent around a drum 6 and then fastened upon itself in the body of the corkscrew. This drum is provided with pintles 7, which are journaled in the body of the tool at the sides of the recess.
Fastened in the recess and extending back of the corkscrew is a leaf-spring 8, said spring the pin, and in this, way said corkscrew is prevented from lateral movement.
In front of the corkscrew, upon the under sideof the body portion of the tool, is pivoted a plate of metal 11, said plate having one of its ends sharpened to form a screw-driver 12, while the other end is provided with an angular recess 13 to be used as a wrench.-
Seated in the body portion below the plate 11 is a spring 14, bearing outwardly against the plate, said spring being provided with a recess 15, between the shoulders of which the plate lies when turned outwardly to bring its endsinto operative position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an implement very useful about the house or kitchen, the various members of said implement being conveniently placed upon a single body portion. The parts readily fold out of the way when not in use and can be easily turned into operative position. The asbestos handle a is very useful when the device is used as a lid-lifter, said handle permitting the tool to be left upon the stove without causing the handle to become too warm to be used.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,'is* r A combination-tool comprising a body portion, one end of said body portion being provided with a handle and the other end of said body portion being sharpened to produce a lid-lifter, a notch in said sharpened end, a hammer-face upon said bodyportion, the body portion being on its under side provided with a recess, a leaf -spring secured in said recess, a corkscrew pivoted between the walls of the recess in front of the leaf-spring, the pivot of said corkscrew being provided with a pin and the leaf-spring having in it an opening adapted to receive said pin when the corkscrew is in its open position, a plate pivoted upon the body portion in front of the recess,
one end of said plate being sharpened to form In testimony whereof I have signed this a screw-driver and the other end being prospecification in the presence of two subscrib- 1o vided with an angular recess to produce a ing witnesses.
Wrench, and a spring located in a slot in the T 7 r r W body portion under the pivoted plate, said ILHELM AIElAKE' spring being provided with a recess adapted Witnesses:
to receive the plate when in its open position, MARTIN SHEA,
substantially as described. W. S. MOKINZIE.
