Description
(No'ModeL) M. E. BIBLE. BROILBROR TOASTER.
Patented A ug.: 3,1897.
A TTOIMEY UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrcn MARTHA E. BIBLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BROILER OR TOASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,470, dated August 3, 1897.
Application filed April 20, 1896. Serial No. 588,247. (No model.)
To all ZUhOT/b it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IVIARTHA E. BIBLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broilers or Toasters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a novel broiler and toaster, of which a full and clear description will be given hereinafter.
My invention consists of a properly-designed frame having connected therewith a rotative broiler made of wire, sheet or plate metal. The broiler is so mounted on the frame as will admit of its being turned over without disturbing the position of the frame.
It also consists of means that will enable the operator to raise the cover of the broiler by a horizontal movement of the hand without shifting the bed or base of the broiler proper, all of which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan View of my invention. Fig. 2 represents the frame in section and the broiler in elevation. The dotted lines represent the broiler having its cover in a raised position.
Similar letters and figures refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in which- (1 represents the metallic frame cast or stamped out of plate metal. The forward end of the said frame is provided with an enlargement I), out out in a manner to receive the broiler c, the base or the bottom of which is provided with the horizontal extension d, which forms a hinge e for the cover f. Said extension 61 also serves as a bearing, which is contained Within the perforation of the lug f. The bottom or base of said broiler is also provided with the usual netting 3 and also with the brace-rod g. The forward end of the latter is looped over the extension d, from thence to the opposite side of the circular base it of the broiler, from which it extends to the perforated lug 2', through which it passes and is then fastened. The cover f, which is provided with the netting 2, is formed by the ring 70, whichis provided with a U -shaped projection Z, with which is connected a correspondingly-shaped projection m, which is integral with the horizontal push-rod n, the latter of which is connected with the ring 0, mounted upon the rod g. The said push-rod 'n is also provided with a suitable enlargement 1" for manipulating the broiler when either turning it or raising or lowering the cover.
The under side of the forward enlargement b is provided with a series of lugs 19, adapted to fit within the opening of an ordinary stove.
Mode of operation-The frame is placed upon the stove, the depending lugs 19 fitting, of course, within the opening. When it becomes necessary to turn the broiler, the op erator has only to turn the enlargement 9", when the broiler will turn in either direction at will. WVhen the cover of the broiler is to be raised, the operator has only to push for ward, when the cover will assume a raised po sition, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
I am aware that broilers have heretofore been made with hinged covers connected therewith, but I am not aware that the covers were adapted to be operated by a pushrod, as shown in my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a broiler the combination with the frame of the broiler, the push-rod, the hinged cover linked to said push-rod, the rod g connected with the broiler and carrying said push-rod by means of the link or loop connection substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 10th day of April,
MARTHA E. BIBLE. Witnesses: HARRY M, MOORE, D. P. BIBLE.
