A. GARTNER. SPINDLE Patented July 20, 1897.
INVENTUR: Mm
BY ATTY'S.
WITNESSES:
UNTTTn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED GARTNER, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE DRAPER COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,791, dated July 20, 1897.
Application filed May 3, 1897. Serial No. 634,800. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED GARTNER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- 1o pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My present invention relates to spinningspindles and is an improvement on the device covered by my application for United States Letters Patent, Serial No. (332,796, filed 19th day of April, 1897.
The object of this invention is to provide a spinning-spindle with an auxiliary drivingwheel which is carried by the spindle-supporting tube and is adj ustably arranged thereon, whereby the tension of the driving band or belt can easily be regulated.
2 5 The invention consists in the arrangement of an auxiliary wheel or pulley carried by the spindle-supportin g tube and adjustable thereon and diametrically opposite the driving means for the said spindle, substantially as 0 Will be hereinafter more fully described, and
finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the views, Figure 3 5 1 is a side elevation of a spinning-spindle provided with my improvements, the spindle-rail being shown in section and the driving band or belt being broken away 5 and Fig. 2, a top plan view of the spindle-supporting bolster and of a portion of the rail.
The bolster b, which is mounted on the rail a, contains the step and bolster bearing for the spindle c, the latter provided with the sleeve 0 and the whirl (Z. Projecting from 5 the bolster b, and preferably integral therewith, is an arm f, arranged substantially horizontal and provided with an elongated slot 9, in which is adjustably arranged, by means of the nut m, the vertical pin or axle h. 011 said pin or axle is loosely mounted an auxiliary wheel or pulley r substantially in the plane of the wheel at and adapted to be engaged by the driving band or belt 6, which latter intermediately engages the said whirl d on two opposite sides, as will be manifest.
The tension of the driving band or belt 6 can be quickly and readily regulated by simply adjusting the pin or axle h within the elongated slot 9 of the arm f.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the sleeve-whirl spindle and its supporting-bolster, and with the driving band or belt intermediately en gaging the whirl of said spindle, of an auxiliary wheel or pulley carried by said bolster and adjustably arranged thereon and carrying said band or belt, and means for adjustably securing said auxiliary wheel or pulley on the bolster, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination with the sleeve-whirl spindle and its supporting-bolster, and With the bandor belt intermediately engaging the whirl of said spindle, of an arm projecting horizontally from said bolster, a pin or axle adj ustably arranged on said arm, and an auxiliary wheel or pulley revolubly mounted on said pin or axle and carrying the said band or belt, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
The combination with the sleeve-whirl spindle and its supporting-bolster, and with the band or belt intermediately engaging the 8 5 whirl of said spindle, of an arm projecting from said bolster and provided with an elongated slot, a pin or axle adjustably arranged in said elongated slot, and an auxiliary wheel or pulley revolubly arranged on said pin or axle and substantially in the plane of the whirl, and carrying the band or belt, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I 5 have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of April, 1897.
ALFRED GARTNER.
